I'm looking for someone who can give me some legal advice on a private rental property matter for a tenant.

I've tried a few places and they have said I need to speak to someone who specialises in property rental law. Howells will only give legal advice if there's a legal aid entitlement, which there isn't.

Ideally we'd like to have one of those one hour fixed fee consultations to find out where we stand and then decide from there what course of action to take.

Can you recommend anyone? If not, does anyone know how I can find some legal information - i've searched the net and not found what I need. Don't want to put too much on here as you never know who is reading it. I'm getting really stressed out, something else happened today and I really want someone I can sound this out to.

does the person who needs this help have household insurance? if so they should have access to free legal advice as part of their policy - look for the number on their paperwork or website

failing that, ring Irwin Mitchell

Spoke to the tenancy relations officers in Sheffield Council and they are fantastic. Very helpful and sent some leaflets out with information. However, we come under Rotherham so Sheffield can't take the case on for us. Spoke to the equivalent in Rotherham but they don't seem very interested, though after further recent 'harassment' from the landlord i'll be back in touch with them again on Monday.

Sheffield Council told me that illegal eviction because of harassment, changing the locks etc is a criminal offence. Spoke to a policeman about it and he says it's civil law and we need to get a solicitor on the case asap.
