Im looking to buy a laptop and not a clue about internet connections and stuff, had a look about and usb dongle things seem ok but i havent a clue how to use them or what sort to get.

Does anybody have any advice or has anybody got one they would recommend, thanks

If you have a landline you can sign up with an Internet Service Provider, eg Sky, Virgin, BT et al. You will get a wireless router (this will also provide an ethernet (wired) facility). Alternatively if you do not have (or want to use) a landline you can get a mobile broadband package. This will give you internet access wherever coverage is available, same as a mobile phone. Both prepay and pay-as-you-go are available and work in the same way as a moble phone. I currently use "3" but there are plenty of others including Vodaphone.
Setting it up is very easy. Just plug the 'dongle' into a USB port on your laptop and the software should install automatically (you may have to run a CD instead but this is less common nowadays). If you sign up to a contract (prepay) you should be given a username/password. If you go the pay-as-you-go route then you can buy top-up vouchers from a wide variety of outlets.
