View Full Version : Local Bands
There's a *HUGE* wealth of talent floating around Sheffield...but as many people know, it's *VERY* hard to make it in the music industry.
Some of the local bands that I've had the privelidge to check out and have been mighty impressed by are:
Tegan - Punky, "chordy" music that's just fun to listen to. Saw them numerous times last year, and they rocked out every time
After The Silence - Quality rock outfit, very popular around Sheffield owing to their general amazingness, go see them if you possibly can!
Existend - Relatively new band, starting their Winter "Rockarama" Tour in a few weeks...make sure you check them out! They're rock with gothic influences, and an amazin lead guitarist. I've seen them a few times, and they have to be my *HOT* pick for the moment. If I find any dates, I'll let ya know.
Have you found any local goldnugget of a band? Let us know so we can all enjoy!!
hopeless_BS 21-10-2003, 18:05 There's some pretty good south yorkshire bands in general. A few I've heard this year are the Catch It Kebabs, Twisteye, Muffin (who've now split). also voice of brain are pretty good.
As promised...I found Existend have confirmed the following:
Mon 10th Nov @ The Boardwalk - Playing First :p
On first so get down early! I'll be there. Definately worth a visit.
I'm still looking for other gigs / bands to look out for and brighten up my evenings with...

The Starlings are a new band that i caught supporting AMOR at the boardwalk last week. They are plying the deepend on the 12th Nov and the casbah on the 8th December. Worth seeing. Great front man. I think tickets are #3.00 on the door on the 12th and its rumoured they are gonna pack the place so you may not get in but worth a try.

Seems the Starlings are making a bit of a name for themselves locally hey herbaliser. There set at the Deepend rocked on Wednesday. Cant wait to see them at the Casbah on the 8th. Maybe see you there. tell everyone about them i think there gonna be big
Herbaliser 16-11-2003, 21:04 didn't realise you'd already posted about them, teach me to read the threads properly...
anyway, yeah, I'll be at the casbah, definitely. hope they play that 'mother' (or something) song again.
Check out Existend at Corporation on 4th Dec.
Playing alongside : Hipshakes, Heckla, Redherrin + Studio8.
This gig has been hotly tipped + is expected to sell out within the next couple of days, limited tickets will be available on the door.
Tickets available from Jacks Records.
Existend were amazingly well received at their first gig at The Boardwalk on Nov. 10th. A dark rock band with some fantastic tracks, their mission is to remind the world just how great guitar players can be  as well as rocking you all the way to the finish while they're doing it.
For a great night with a packed out atmosphere and some fantastic music, you won't get better than this!! :D
KIK are a great band, whose music is undescribable really (a mixture of electro rock and dance beats)
You have to see them live, their gigs rock!
I think they're playing at the Boardwalk in February, but I definately know they are playing in Manchester at Night & Day Cafe on 21st February.
I'll definately be going to both gigs.
checkout their website www.kikonline.com (http://www.kikonline.com) or their myspace page (http://www.myspace.com-kikuk)
Familiarise and appreciate!
carpenter 26-01-2006, 01:56 Hello Donovan,
You must be really into KIK , I've seen this post on another thread. Glad to see there's someone else on this forum who's into them too. Bumping into quite a few KIK fans of late.
I bumped into the singer in the Forum yesterday. And he was a really nice guy, really friendly and down to earth ( even though he looks like a right rock star, my bird was a bit in awe actually ). I've met bands before and they're sometimes a bit up there own arse, so it was really refreshing. Is this the norm in Sheffield? Hope so!
He told me that they're locked in the studio 24/7 finishing their album and the Sheffield gig is the 3rd March.
Thats really cool. I can't wait for their album to come out.

Good local bands: Monkey Swallows the Universe (dead good, music on web, find)
The Spiders (think that's the right name)
Bison (www.allhailthebison.com)
The Sprung Clung Consort (not sure if they're still together but they were amazing)
The United Kingdom of America (bit wierd but good)
Existend are quite good to be fair
The Yell
Rowan Rheingans (Singer/Songwriter, she's good)
Dead Like Harry
Tommy Binks & The Alcoholics
Step Aside
There's quite a lot more too. Plenty of regular nights on at the boardwalk and grapes to catch local talent. I'm probably going to the boardwalk on Sunday if anyone fancies it.
Don't forget about KIK - they rock!
