As the title says - is 50 or 60 Hz preferable? I thought higher was better, but I'm outnumbered ...

mines a 100...refresh rate is mega fast.

So 60 would be better than 50? (100 looks a bit out of the price range ...)

Depends what you intend to watch and what size screen. The larger the screen the higher refresh rate you would need if your watching movies a lot.

So i've been told.

Stretch your resources to 100 hertz if at all possible ..... the difference between 50 and 100 hertz refresh rate is astounding, especially if viewing fast-moving objects/text or whatever.

You really will appreciate the difference.

It depends if she is looking or not.

Thank you for the advice.

We are looking for a combined Tv/DVD/Freeview device but find the technology difficult to understand.

It looks like our price range would limit us to 60 Hz at best, though. Does that mean we should forget about the whole thing for the time being?

Try reducing your screen size a little. Have you looked online for special deals?

I think Comet have an inhouse auction for end of line items...

Screen size is one of the reasons we are looking into this - we are thinking of upgrading to 19".

The Comet site looks interesting, thank you for that - I might get sidetracked into looking at kitchen stuff (much to the dismay of the resident teenager who assures me a new TV with working DVD and Freeview must be our top priority).
