We've only ever had good experiences from paypal. Once we received nothing, and eeven thought the seller said that he had put it in the post, paypal recovered out money for us, and another time we had our ebay account hacked ito - paypal were very good and refunded everything. I would keep at them.

Paypal is part of eBay, and both have a very poor reputation when things go wrong - check out the Community pages for other people in the same situation (there are hundreds).

If you paid for the full transaction using your credit card, then claim it back via your credit card provider. Paypal usually send you a snotty e-mail but nothing further happens and you get your refund. If you paid using a Paypal balance, there's not much you can do except chase through Paypal.

Definetly. I sold a fully working laptop to a moron who had no idea how to use it. He ended up corrupting Windows. I did offer to re-install it for him providing he paid all postage, but he refused, insisting I should pay for it all.

This is a 486 DX4-100 we are talking about, which sold for £20.

Anyway, he complained to Paypal - he gave his side of the story, I gave mine. I did add that I had email proof from him admitting he didn't know what he was doing and that he was responsible for the problems.

But, a month on, Paypal have decided to award him a full refund, ignoring all the evidence contrary. All he has to do is email Paypal proof of return postage and he gets the money back. I, on the other hand could get anything from a broken laptop to an empty box.

Ebay and Paypal are just as big a bunch of crooks as some of the people on and abusing Ebay.

So, it'll be on here in a week or two when it arrives.

I read about some problems with Paypal, in America. E-bay talk about Paypal as if it's a bank but it is far from that. They can be a law unto themselves.
E-bay and Paypal are extremly difficult to get answers from sometimes when you have problems, and are fond of suspending people's accounts if someone complains about a sale. Paypal has been known to deduct money without permission from customer's current accounts, Even after a sale has gone through and payment taken and paid previously, they put customers onto probation and claw back recently paid money.
This kind of thing is especially worrying for the growing amount of people who use e-bay as a major part of their personal income or business.

Where I work we take money from customers all over the world, and when they use a credit card to pay then everything is extremely straight forward, and the product goes out the same day. Customers in Germany are especially wary of using credit cards because Credit is an extremely dirty word over there and people prefer to save up and pay for things later by bank transfer or cash. But due to demand we have been forced to set up a paypal account for some users. I am extremely wary of this method, and will be keeping a very close eye on paypal's behaviour.

I would agree to the above I have always had good service from Pay Pal and E Bay I have always had my own little rules for both selling and buying I always check feed back and wont buy from anyone with less than 15 positive feedbacks although I do accept that people have to start somewhere.

oooooh, i am an e-bayer and always state i prefer paypal. It's really is safe and very fast so you know where you are with posting. I've had people who want to pay by cheque or postal order and this really slows things things up. You can trust people if they are verified which takes a while, i mucked mine up by phone, and had to do it by post, but its worth it in the end cause other e-bayers trust you. Just dont reply to scam e-mails that ask for your details eg passwords etc. I have a tool that says whether sites are verified or not. Paypal is the best in the end.

I don't see why Paypal should exist... It annoys how most users prefer to use Paypal when you could just do a direct transfer...
It costs to use their services too, I had an account about 2 years ago and kept 5 minutes... created it, used it, asked for it to be completely deleted.

Paypal is a bit like AOL or First... Just dissapear and things will be the same... Just without you :suspect:

If you use Paypal when selling on Ebay it's a disgrace that you have to pay around 4% of the fee in commission when you've ALREADY paid 5% to Ebay (who own Paypal) at the end of the auction.

I try to get my Ebay buyers to pay by bank transfer or cheque.

I fell out with paypal from day one while setting up the account. I found the website so badly layed out that i gave up half way through. I know it takes a couple of days, but i've never had a problem with paying with cheques and when selling i always offer direct bank transfer.

I really don't see the point of paypal, i can send money directly to anyone's account through my HSBC online banking, and they can send money to me and it doesn't cost anything.

i got my paypal account hacked into - the person that hacked added his bank account and used my account for whatever and transfered the money to his bank account. I emailed paypal as even though he had deleted his bank account details i could still see that £500 had been taken out and some of his details but paypal didnt help me at all they limited my account and made me pay the money back to people, once my account was limited i couldnt delete it.

I sold an item to someone who received it, claimed it to be missing parts and appealed to Paypal for a refund. Paypal told him to return it to me and once it was returned he would get a refund. I received the package and parts were missing that he had taken! I complained to Paypal again and again. I expected an investigation, but they decided that the refund should go to him through an automated message.

I was told I could appeal and should follow the appeal process. I searched their site high and low for this process but there was nothing on it. I have sent them countless of appealing emails telling them that they've been made a laughing stock of and the fraudster is getting away with it. They usually don't reply to my messages. I've had one back saying that they're looking into it.

Meanwhile the bloke has left me negative rating saying I sent shoddy goods and that Paypal refunded him.

I would add that I have nothing but positive experiences with PayPal. Someone got my account details once and tried to defraud me. PayPal sorted it out really quickly and with minimum of fuss and recredited my account ASAP.

Having said that, I expect nothing less as you do pay for the privilege of using it. Like all e-bay related stuff, you've got to be able to trust the seller and trust your instincts and their exisiting feedback for major purchases etc.

I'm happy to use Paypal for purchasing things, because it gives me as a buyer the protection of the consumer credit act, so if things go wrong I can always claim from my credit card company. It doesn't cost me extra as a buyer, and I even get cashback from my credit card. Plus I get the goods quicker.

However, I don't use it as a seller any more, firstly because they're more expensive than Fastpay and PPPay, and secondly because the buyer has the rights, not the seller. So, even months after selling an item, the buyer can reverse the transaction from their credit card, and the money will be taken straight from your bank account. You can't choose your buyer - there's nothing you can do to choose who to sell to when the auction ends, and no guarantee who they are.

I sell alot of things on ebay as well as my own website (http://store.pallen-solutions.com) you have to get the free publicity in :-)

Anyway this guy purchased 2 web hosting plans from me for £140 no problems at all. Then out of the blue PayPal took the £140 out of my account for no reason, I then went overdrawn and complained to them. I got a response asking for some details, i gave them.... 1 week later nothing, so asked them what was going on, they asked me the same questions, i gave them... This went on for a month

I then got told the money would not come back to my account because the buyer filed a complaint. I contacted the buyer who said he knew nothing of that. I emailed PayPal after waiting on hold on the phone for about an hour last week, i had a response asking me to fill out a customer satisfation survey. I have heard nothing since....

£140 down the drain because thay cannot be bothered to answer customers questions.... My customer now has had a business he attempted to start took off of him which has cost him well over £400 and I am £140 short.

So in a word. Yes... If i did'nt HAVE to use them I would'nt touch them with a bargepole!

Ditto, I've found PP a pain in the neck; now I do not allow it to be used by buyers.
