View Full Version : Recommend car insurance in Sheffield?
dirtybobby 08-05-2005, 16:10 right, my insurance renewal is up, and apparently it's going to cost me £200 more just because i've moved from stafford to sheffield!! i know south yorks is bad for car crime (allegedly), but £200 just for moving 90 miles up the road??
anyway.. best i've got so far is £620 from churchill.. i've got a fairly standard car (ford focus 1.8i zetec) with no mods or anything..
anyone recommend any insurance companies i should try? i'm 26 with 3 years no claims..
any help appreciated!
matsalleh 08-05-2005, 16:15 Try Tesco insurance, it worked out cheaper for me,but depends on your circumstances of course.
Silverjet 08-05-2005, 16:19 Try internet sites for insurance (for any company) as they're always cheaper than calling. Also, get yourself a new business quote from your existing Insurers, I bet that will be cheaper than your renewal.

yeah i've tried all the usual suspects, was just wondering if anyone knew any local companies or people who were more sympathetic to sheffield car owners!
what do you mean by a new "business quote"? do you just mean i may get a better quote by starting fresh rather than going with their renewal?
cheers for your replies guys..

I recommend Fletcher Smith Insurance on Middlewood Road, directly behind the Sheffield Wednesday ground, near the Park Hotel and on the Supertram route to Middlewood.
Phone 2333175.
*Twinkle* 08-05-2005, 17:11 I got mine from direct line... Was £850 for an 18 y/o female having passed my test 2 months previously... Its only for a rover 100 no mods etc, N reg, 3rd party.
Same insurance for my bf, aged 21 would be £1300....
Both prices dont include the extra £157 they add for the option of paying by monthly installments.
Not bad for me I guess, but tons extra for my bf, who is 3 years older than me (presumably more wise??) and obviously male lol
Silverjet 08-05-2005, 17:13 A new business quote online with your existing insurer will generally work out cheaper than the renewal they've given you.
Obviously you would think staying with the same insurer you would get loyalty discount or something but it doesn't generally work out like that.... cos they're greedy.

well, i tried the "new quote" approach with tesco and they wanted another £200 on top of my already ridiculous renewal quote!!
let's see what people's choice have to offer..
Try the NFU in Chapeltown. I've found them to be very competitive.
Silverjet 08-05-2005, 18:48 Ah well, maybe you're getting the best deal with tesco then.
Sheffield is a higher rated area than staff so you may not be able to avoid a higher premium. Sorry i couldn't help.
Good luck with it though.
dirtybobby 08-05-2005, 18:52 looks like the best so far is churchill at £625 :'o(
gutted.. ah well, them's the breaks..
I use directchoice.co. uk , very efficient and gave me a great deal.
PS. they have an online quote system, which is quite long, but it is worth the effort IMHO
PPS. If you have use of another car, say so. ie. named driver on another policy etc, it really does make a difference.
My last car was insured by CIS but when it came up for renewal I found Kwik Fit gave me a better deal....I always get quotes from about 20 diffrent places before renewing.
alchresearch 08-05-2005, 19:31 I've been with Zurich for a few years, always been the best quote every time.
However, they've recently done a bit of cost cutting which has angered me a bit. They were the first to introduce plastic credit card sized certificates of insurance.
That's now gone, as well as the full free membership to Green Flag breakdown. They've also adpoted the far-Eastern call centre with people who can't confidently speak clear English and cannot understand regional UK dialects.
When I was shopping around for my renewal I found the Post Office to be the nearest to Zurich's price.
