hi everyone

Am wanting to get some chickens - will have some ex-batts but wanting to buy a couple too.
Now, I need recommendations of what breeds to get - want to have enough eggs for family - and where to buy them from.

Please help me I have been searching on internet for a few days and haven't got anywhere.

thanks

We are a family of five and have five hens which give us more than enough. the three warrens are the better layers (these are what you would get if you got ex batts i expect) we also have two speckeldys which lay well just slighhtly less than the warrens. we have had hens from storrs poultry before and can recommend them.

we got our first two chickens from the place in the link that jobi has supplied, and a third from storrs. i'd recommend the raw green cottages place, as they seem to sell more to people who have chickens as pets rather than 'livestock' and consequently the chickens seem more tame.

visiting storrs was an experience though - how far off the beaten track could you possibly get??!!

Your not kidding there, we took some of the pannels off the bottom of our car getting down Storrs Lane! It should really say on the website that the road leading there is more of a deeply rutted dirt track :o
When we eventually got what was left of the car down to Storrs we picked up a lovley bluebell and a Blackrock. I have two blackrocks and the Bluebell and they are all great layers, they produce far more eggs than we can eat, one of my Blackrocks is two years old and still laying lovley big eggs on a daily basis.
