View Full Version : What WAS the name of that shop on Cambridge Street?
goldenfleece 21-10-2003, 13:39 Circa late 70's early 80's, it was certainly there in 1983, there was a shop on the corner of Cambridge and Division street, where that horrible trendy wine bar is now opp Coles. It was a sort of hippie (ish) place (not the one up the narrow stairs in the 90's) but ground floor with a big shop front window, selling records, tapes, loads of posters, hippie juice (patchouly, etc), joss-sticks, postcards, rock T shirts, etc. Much bigger than pippy's down the road and also sold a lot of pagan jewellery and essential rock patches for the old jean jacket.
WHAT WAS IT CALLED???
Pippy's
Used to get Patchouly oil from there:loopy:
goldenfleece 21-10-2003, 13:48 No, not Pippys, that was further down by the Wapentake. This was up by the end of Cole brothers, near to the corner with Division Street. There was an old pub near it and a car park as well I think.
Go up a bit from pippys, towards the City hall....
Sorry should have read your post properly DOH
The pub was The Albert and I think the shop was called Bottoms.
goldenfleece 21-10-2003, 14:20 cant recall the name BOTTOMS at all. I am speaking circa 81/2/3 time, they had distinctive plastic carrier bags I remember.
IMPULSE...that was it I think. IMPULSE ????IMPULSE
sammyBoy 21-10-2003, 15:31 It was called impulse, it had the back room with posters all over the walls and ceiling and a arcade machine.
Yep, sounds like Impulse to me. It was somewhat Tardis-like, being several miles long once you got inside. Crammed with posters, records, T-shirts and stuff.
beansforyou 22-10-2004, 16:17 The one up the narrow staircase to a few little pokey hippy shops was Fat City..
I miss pippy's
WallBuilder 22-10-2004, 16:52 I can't imagine many of the girls who shopped in Pippy's missing the big fat owner, he definitely had an eye for the ladies especially when they were in the changing cubicle with it's ill fitting swing doors.

Sounds like it . Bought my axe ear-ring there.
Mind you The Albert was far more impressive...that was a proper town centre pub..a bit basic..but a real pub.
