Wadsley-born opera star, Peter Glossop, a former pupil of High Storrs GS has died aged 80.

I am so sorry to read of this sad news. Peter, I think, was in my year at HSGS or might have been a year earlier, I‘m not sure. I can‘t pretend to have known him well, but I do recall his name but never realised until more recently that this fine singer had been a school-mate.
Rest in peace, Peter.

I was stunned when I read the obit., grew up listening to him and never knew he came from Sheffield. He worked with all the greats, Solti, Karajan etc.

Awful way for someone with such a great voice to die.

Very, very sad - he had a superb, strong voice. My Wadsley-born mother was on his generation and knew the family; I think they lived in Laird Road. He was actually named Cyril after his father, but always used his middle name. I remember hearing that he had retired to the village of Hawkchurch in Devon. Rest in peace.
