What if you own neither :( I would love a dog but I know really I don't have the time to look after it.

Got 12 year old Boxer with poorly foot :( She stood on broken beer bottle from stupid litter lout! Cost £300 and now found out she has cancer in it. In a way good job she stood on glass and found out in time just in case we can try to stop it spreading.

Me too but cos of her age not many vets are willing to do anything cos it means cutting two toes off. We have to take her to Cambridge to see a specialist soon. She is very old for her breed so she could die of old age before the cancer spreads anyway.

I would always recommend a boxer as a family pet they are great with kids.

As a human chosen as current guardian of two cats, I've selected the closest of the Poll Options. ;)

We adopted a cat from the Sheffield Cat Shelter quite a few years ago (about 8) now and she's a realy sweetie.

When I finished work in October last year I got a dog (long wanted) he's a Golden Retriever. We looked up all the breeds of dog and decided on a Golden because of their tempremant, exercise needs etc. He's wonderful but a real handfull!

I really wouldn't be without either of them. My cat is really independent but sleeps at the end of my bed every night and loves a cuddle. My doggie, he's so loveable and friendly - he'll never make a guard dog but he's really good company.

The two of them get on quite well, we got Taylor (dog) as a puppy so that Layla (cat) would get used to him. They don't curl up together yet but get along fine.

I always make a point of feeding Layla first so that Taylor knows she is the boss! Love them both to bits!

My mum and sister are allergic to both so no sadly :(

I won't get started cos i could talk forever.

We have two cats, Smudge and Smitch. They'd been abandoned as kittens and the cat shelter was closing down so we took them both.

Smitch is funny as she hates everyone and everything but my mum is determined to cuddle her whether she likes it or not!

Smudge on the other hand, is primarily my cat, she loves company and she sits on my shoulder while I walk around my room! Like I said I won't get started because I could talk about her forever, but she's gorgeous and I can't imagine life without her! She's also a huge pain in the bum and sometimes i can lose my temper!

I've not voted, as my parents have a dog and had him before I moved out, so I consider him to me my pet too.
At the moment I couldn't look after a pet at home, but I go and walk my parents dog and look after him if they go away for a holiday.

I like most animals but if push came to shove have to say I prefer dogs. My present dog Max is a big idle lazy black labrador looking animal. He's got problems of a mental type so people often say he and i are perfectly suited. I don't cower and tremble if i see or hear little wizzened old ladies though! I'd always go for male dogs as although some people say there are no real differences between male and female I would beg to differ.

My dog was called Max, he looked like your avatar pic but with white blaze on his head. I still miss him :( Lol, he was idle and liked to roll in cow sh*t much to my dad's annoyance :)

Hi dog in our house...staffy loves to roll in fox s**t , shes 13 months old , excellent with the kids, crap guard dog, but shes still only young, gets on well with other dogs although can get cocky when they nick her ball. Love her to bits.

We own a huge, heavyweight brindle/white, English Bull Terrier bitch by the name of 'Tallie' [short for 'Tallulah'- blame my wife...]. We simply could not even think about introducing a cat. Tallie would tear one limb from limb.
