View Full Version : I Want Something To Do For Free This Weekend! bostonaire 07-05-2005, 10:06 HELP FOLKS .... too cold for picnic though not opposed to out door stuff...nothing too energetic though., nice and relaxed that invovles adults and kids and maybe the dog alike that is free or wont cost much! SHarper 07-05-2005, 10:14 Have you been to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park? I haven't personally, but heard good things about it, I think it's free ( except for parking (£3)) and not too far away. It is on my "places to visit this year" list... Don_Kiddick 07-05-2005, 10:22 You can walk the Chesterfield canal from Kiveton or Anston to Worksop & get the bus or train home. That stretch has the bestest EVER scenery - like going back in time. You'll see loads of wildlife too! It's not too busy - usually dog walkers or ramblers  neeeeeeeeeek 07-05-2005, 10:34 You can paint my lounge if you like. I won't charge you and may even supply a free glass of water. :D And while you at it can you take this heart burn away! Or go to Monsel head, it's nice out there. :) Hunterface 07-05-2005, 10:48 Yorkshire sculpture park is very good, I used to go when I was a kid and I loved it. Alternatively there's the five weirs walk which provides great scenery. Don_Kiddick 07-05-2005, 11:02 Check this out too http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39303 Sara 07-05-2005, 17:29 Problem with Yorkshire Sculpture Park is that you can't let the dog off the lead anywhere! We do let ours off in the open and rough country park section - so do all the dog owners I've ever seen there - but most of the most interesting sculptures are in the most formal areas and what do you do with dog whilst you look at the indoor displays/have a cup of tea... (rhetorical) Draggletail 07-05-2005, 18:15 Heeley City Farm is free. Adults like it, kids like it and dogs... well you can take dogs as far as I know. And there is a café where you can have refreshments or lunch if you want to :) Hels 07-05-2005, 18:31 Well there's also Rother Valley Country Park? If you're going up the M1 you could do worse than go a junction further than Bretton Hall Sculpture Park and go to Newmillerdam (on the Barnsley-Wakefield Rd) but you'll need to keep your dog on a lead. Nice walk and a pub at each end! That's where we are going tomorrow, get a geat carvery at the Dam Inn. Ooh, been there, done that, was nice - saw a Kingfisher too:thumbsup: bostonaire 07-05-2005, 19:01 hi guys thanks for all those.....what we dont do this weekend we can do next.thanks again :) clogginchris 07-05-2005, 20:50 Walk the Five Weirs walk from Ladys Bridge to Meadowhall. You can get the tram back, or if you're feeling energetic, walk back along the canal towpath. Just like to echo waht everyone else has said about the sculpture park - good for kids, adults and dogs. burnttoast 07-05-2005, 21:11 Originally posted by clogginchris Walk the Five Weirs walk from Ladys Bridge to Meadowhall. Bit of advice.Skip the first part of the walk from Ladies bridge..went last week ,was discusting..loads of litter.and druggies needles all over the place ,also under the bridge is beeing used as a toilet. Its a shame, spoiling the good work all the volunteers have done .Not a very good advert for visitors to the city.Try further on the walk its a lot better .:shakes: |
