Just was wondering if anyone else has ended their mobile phone contract (giving notice and following all the rules) and then had to ring up to get the money that the company owed them, instead of it being credited like they say they would on the final bill.

This has happened to both me and my boyf and I was wondering if it was common practise with all phone companies, ours would of made £40+ out of us if we had not checked our bank accounts for the payments that they owed us.

I suppose it is another way to make money though

I think it's common business practice not to pay what you owe until asked for it.

I think it is common, the same thing happened to my friend a few weeks ago, I just use pay-as-you-go, much easier and no hassle.

Unless you have a direct debit. You can get your money back but it doesn't stop them taking the money in the first place.

I've noticed a big rise in 18 month contracts. There's one advert where you get £5 line rental for the year. The quite well hidden catches are that it's by redemption - you pay full price and get the excess refunded every six months and even then youhave to apply for it.

After the 12 months is up you pay standard rate of £30. So if you're not careful you could end up paying £540.
