View Full Version : Inserting a quote into a message
I'm sorry if someone has already asked this question, but when I tried to search under inserting quote, there were hundreds of possibilities....
When I insert a quote from another user into my message, the name of the original poster doesn't appear at the top of the quote box, which I have seen when others post quotes....can anyone tell me how to get the name of the original poster into my quote box?
Thanks!

Howz it done? There's like a QUOTE button at the bottom right of every post, by clicking on it, the phpBB software puts the entire content of the post in a quote.
Alternatively, by clicking on 'NEW POST' you'll see a 'QUOTE' button at the top centre. If you're in normal mode, a popup will ask you paste the sentence you wish to quote, if you're in enhanced mode a META TAG saying 'QUOTE' will be inserted in your message, the paste the stuff to quote followed by a click on the X close current Tag button.
And Bob's your uncle, should take about 2 to 3 minutes to master ;)
To do multiple quotes, you can do all the above several times in each post OR when you're about to post a reply, right clic and open in new window and copy that... You'll then have two or more quotes in your post.
OWNED !!

1) No "new post" button.
2) No Quote button at the top centre (only at bottom left of post)
3) certainly no pop up with no paste option.
So either your explanation is wierd or my Sheff forum page is?????
Have a look here for several solutions:

Thanks very much for your help, everyone.
Looks like there are multiple ways to multiple quote!
I'll practice a bit, and see what works best for me.
Many thanks.
Cheers,

did it work?
well that was a bit rubbish, wasn't it.
I'm not quoting anymore, it's too hard

It's OK as long as you check your artistry afterwards. Part of my time as a mod is spent tidying up quotes where it's been done like this.
By George I think she's got it!
Sort of
My method was.
Open 2 pages of the forum.
find a quote then click on quote.
then copy
then return to your original reply after clicking quote.
Then paste from the other "quote" you clicked.
and that my friends, makes no sense at all after reading back what it just wrote!

right, the reply button is actually 'NEW REPLY': http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/images/reply.gif
The quote button is in the top centre of the reply window... below the badly spelt 'color' drop down menu.
nd if you don't have popup then you're in enhanced mode as I said...
No need to be pedantic... You just don't have a clue.
Nice to see how you welcome help when you need it !

There we are - in normal mode, CS' post has been quoted, by simply using the ''Quote" button.
However, if I wanted a paragraph of person X's post, and a paragraph of person Y, then I have two tabs open and sit and copy and paste.
:)
