View Full Version : Arrrrrrrrgggggggghhhh housework and kids!!
honeyb35 09-09-2008, 09:04 I've got someone coming to the house to see me today, I don't usually DO home meetings and the house looks like a bombsite! I'm trying my best to tidy up but little one keeps wrecking it! I've put all the toys back twice, she re - empties the toy box, then looks at me, laughs, and says 'tidy?' She does help me put it all back....then the cycle starts again grr.
I've put the cushions back on the settee 25,000 times.....only for her to climb on the settee (it takes her a while) then she happily sits and pushes all the cushions back on the floor.......
It doesnt help that I've got washing galore either, she took her nappy off in the early hours of the morning and pooped in her bed (thanks kid ) and no way of drying it - in fact I've got washing on the line that I put out on the last dry (ish) day, and I darent bring it back in as its sopping, the tumble dryer doesnt work, my airer is full, and I can't get to any of the radiators! Nightmare!
yip, my hubbie just doesn't understand how hard it is to get things done with kids around!! Hope you managed to get the house semi-decent before your visitor arrived!
i was just thinking the same! Scarlett is being a right pain the bum at the moment. I know she's not 100% but it's hard going.
My house looks like a TIP there is clean dry washing on top of the dryer & on the floor in front of the dryer. There's mucky washing in front of the washer and at the top of the stairs is two big bags of stuff we brought back from scotland (all clean but needing put away)
Everytime I leave the room Scarlett goes mental and cries like a crazy thing so I'm struggling to get anything done. I hate sitting in a mess though but until she falls asleep the house work'll need to wait :(
waxonwaxoff 09-09-2008, 09:24 I have the same thing in my house. I now dont have cushions in my living room as i got sick of picking them back up and constantly washing them after they kept getting covered in foot prints and bean juice or whatever equally illumnous food they smeared all over them. Now Im wondering should I get rid of my cream curtains that have suffered the same. :D I would scream into a pillow as loud as you can, take a breather with a cup of tea and start again. Failing that sod it and leave it as it is, your visitor should understand or help you clean it hehehe. :D

honeyb35 09-09-2008, 09:40 its so nice to hear! Every time I visit someone else the house looks spotless :suspect: I've got an overflowing wash basket at the top of the stairs, with clothes all over as my 7 yr old doesnt seem to manage to get clothes from her bedroom into the basket, which is next to her bedroom door
As for pots in the sink - I've just shut the kitchen door so I can't see them :hihi: I've ran out of washing up liquid and can't get to the shops yet so they'll have to wait.
SpeedDemon 09-09-2008, 09:44 I've long since given up on having a tidy house. People who visit me (no matter whether they're family, friends, health visitor etc) have to just deal with the fact we have 5 kids, 2 dogs, a parrot and 4 cats living in a small space. As long as the house isn't filthy, I'm not bothered. Although half an hour after hoovering, the furry one ensures there's dog hair everywhere again anyway so it looks like I never bothered in the first place
Well little miss is asleep so i should get off the forum and tidy some i suppose. I can't be annoyed though.
Sometimes I feel that we're seen as the messy family cause when people come round (unexpected) the place is usually a mess. It's clean but a tip.
honeyb35 09-09-2008, 13:26 :hihi: my visitors just gone, I've put both little ones to bed for a nap, tidied the toys up (again!) and am sat on here instead of getting anything worthwhile done lol
Don't stress....just remember this little poem...
I hope that my child, looking back on today
Will remember a mother who had time to play;
Because children grow up while you're not looking,
There are years ahead for cleaning and cooking.
So, quiet now cobwebs, dust go to sleep.
I'm nursing my baby, and babies don't keep.
:)
My DH finally realised what it was like last week. He took a day off and played Mum as I was really ill in bed. At one point I heard him say, "I can't get anything done." Am I evil, because I thought, great now you know how I feel ;)

:hihi: i thought this too when MrSpeedDemon lost his job at the end of june. He started by helping me out, but then early august my auntie died so I've spent LOADS of time sorting her house out, leaving him to deal with the kids / animals / housework etc. He often thought it might be nice to be a house husband. He NOW realises what it's like to deal with 5 kids (2 of them being babies) a whole host of animals, plus trying to keep the house clean, cook, wash, iron, etc and funnily enough has changed his mind. I think it's done him good - he will understand now, if he comes home and the house is a tip. He started his new job on monday :hihi:

I love that poem! Will have to show it to the OH when he comes home from work in the morning lol.
I seem to have this alarm that goes off in my daughter's head everytime I try to wash up that makes her come and cling to my legs and demand a carry or cuddle!
