I think Wilko get rid off most seed related stuff at the end of the summer, along with most places that are not dedicated garden centres.

Are really good.

Nettos are incredibly cheap, but they probably won't have any in now until the Spring. From memory they are around 20-40p a packet ... I've used quite a few and had good germination / results.

Hiya

What about garlic bulbs and asparagus crowns etc. Is there a place that will sell these along with a large variety of seeds?

Just about any decent garden centre should have these in stock at the moment. I got 5 asparagus crowns for £4 this morning at Valleyside Garden Centre opposite the old Bell Hagg pub on Manchester road. They also have lots of seeds, seed potatoes, onions, garlic, shallots. It mights be a bit late to plant garlic now as they do better after a good frosting.

It will grow, but if it doesn't get frosted it won't split into cloves. You just get a big onion sized garlic ball:hihi:
Try some shallots, they are really easy to grow and you can put them in anytime in the next month.

Where is your plot?

Cheers for that, I may leave garlic till next year then. I was thinking about challots as well. Can you buy them from bulbs? Im up at manor, got it last december, done some clearing but the weather has been a nightmare and i keep getting colds :( . Going to crack on with it next sat though.

Good luck with it. It can take years to get a plot right. I love mine, on Hangingwater. Shallots and onion sets are available in all the garden centres at the moment, I'd guess that Wilkinsons will have some too. You just shove them into the ground up to their necks and keep the weeds down Even I can do that:) Shallots seem a little expensive, I just paid £3 for 10, but each bulb produces 5 or 6 new bulbs and you can keep some of your crop to plant next year if you want. Do the same with your garlic, because that is quite pricey too.

Sounds good. The ones im looking at are, Shallots, Garlic, Asparagus, Leeks, Globe Artichokes, Peppers, Onions, Sprouts, Courgette. They are the kind of things i like. And then try diff variants.

B+Q might have onions and garlic. If not, try Middletons at the bottom of the Moor. You could also try ringing Heeley City Farm as they sell all kinds of stuff and they aren't too far from you.

Hiya, popped into Middletons after work, and they do the bulbs for challots, onions (red and white) etc and seeds (not a great selection though) so thats really handy. Cheers sibon :)
