View Full Version : Bus Vandals! Should they get reported if seen.
sheffciti 06-05-2005, 17:29 Bus Vandals!
i was travelling from the city to low edges last week and at the bottom of woodseat's road about 13 youth's got on the bus and sat upstairs 5 minutes later the bus had nearly been compleately burn't down they had set all of the free metro newspaper's on fire and when they were ejected from the bus the bus driver radio'd through to the police and one of the you'ths spraypainted all of the plastic covering the driver's door plastic panal and i hope they get caught! but i think that they were too stupid to realise that there were about 3 cctv camereas above their head's.:|
do you think that something should be done about these yobs?
if so please vote in the poll and tell other sheffield forum users if you have ever seen any of this yobbish behaviour before.
and people wonder why there are no buses at night?
it's because of the vandals spoiling it for everyone else.
Don_Kiddick 06-05-2005, 17:34 Exactly the same should be done to their room/ belongings in their parents house.
Then they should receive the birch
IMO :D
Axe their thumbs off.
Then see how they hold a can of spray paint
sheffciti 06-05-2005, 17:55 i think if caught they should get a fine and pay for the cleaning products themself and clean it off themselves.:heyhey:
sheffciti 06-05-2005, 18:08 and so they should it would stop a lot of trouble on the buses, I was travelling from sheffield to rotherham on the 130 bus I was sat downstairs talking to the driver who I knew when there must have been about 10 kids got off the bus at brinsworth, you know when you have that feeling when something is not right well we both got it so my mate stopped the bus just below the atlas pub mind you it was a good thing he did, the bloody buggars had set all the metro papers on fire upstairs if we hadnt have smelled paper burning then the all bloody bus would have gone up. what these yobbo's dont realise if they carry on doing what they are doing then first bus will take off the buses what go around there. who will be sorry then I wonder ?. bring back the clippy's they should never have got rid of them at least you knew where you stood with them.

Purge on public transport vandals
Stations, buses and trains have been targeted by graffiti vandals
Police, bus and rail operators across Yorkshire are mounting a purge on vandals who deface and damage public transport vehicles in the region.
And the Crimestoppers charity is offering a reward of up to £1,000 for people who ring in with the name of anyone attacking buses or trains.
Posters featuring common graffiti "tags" or etches are being distributed in a bid to snare the culprits.
Transport officials say the cost of repairs is escalating.
Hitting services
Det Sgt Ian Froggett, the regional co-ordinator from Crimestoppers said: "Such vandalism is a costly eyesore and it increases the fear of crime.
"What we're asking the public to do is ring us on 0800 555111 with information about the individuals they believe to be responsible."
Phil Stone, Arriva Yorkshire's managing director added: "Graffiti and etching not only costs money, it means that buses have to be taken off the road for repairs.
"The result is that vital services cannot be operated, inconveniencing customers."
Ch Insp Terry Nicholson of British Transport Police said: "Graffiti is not an art, it is vandalism in these circumstances and it is a blight on the area where it occurs."
Plain clothed police will be travelling on buses and trains aiming to identify and arrest anyone causing criminal damage.
The most common areas that it is happening is Doncaster,Bently,Edlington and Rossington Rotherham,Eastwood,Dalton,Thrybergh,Rawmarsh and Maltby
Sheffield,Manor,Low Edges,Batemoor and Shiregreen
Be warned! on all the new First buses in South Yorkshire have C.C.T.V. if you commit a crime you will be caught. you have been warned!!!
hope this can help copied it from the bbc website.

Agreed, the stupid chavs should be forced to scrub the bus decks on their hands and knees, hard labour! That'll bloody well learn 'em!
Don_Kiddick 06-05-2005, 19:12 They should have to do it anyway to earn their dole money!

Cutglass 06-05-2005, 19:42 I have to confess that I did see a group of young lads trying to set fire to a bus seat with a cigarette lighter and I didn't do or say anything :(
In my defence I was with my youngest son who was 7 at the time and he was the one who told me what they were doing, but I was so scared that if we drew attention to what they were doing, they would then turn their attention to myself and my son.
We got off a few stops early and I then quickly mentioned to the driver what they were trying to do and then we walked away as quickly as we could, trying to make out that we lived on the estate where we'd gotten off.:(
I did and still do feel bad about not doing anything :(

sheffciti 06-05-2005, 20:00 i'ts just sad that we live in this kind of world.
sheffciti 06-05-2005, 21:51 would anyone else like to report something that they have witnessed on public transport.

they should do that because that'll show'em
I got on the 94 on Wednesday to find 2 seats had been ripped out. I scowled at the likely looking kids at the back but apparently not them.
Does anyone remember back in the early eighties when signing buses was rife.
The bus company printed all the regular names in the Sheffield star to catch the vandals
Mich,Zonny,Nev,Sammy to name but a few
All known to me I'm afraid to say

I believe that a cut off time for issuing these 40p fares to youngsters should be made in the evening as all a lot of these kids are doing is riding around for 40p causing trouble on the vehicles and deterring folk from travelling.
http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35511
Ive put this on as my post got put in here- last post on thread.
But i was wondering about those cctv cameras that suppose to be on the buses.
Are they on the older buses too, as the 58 route i mentioned has the older buses on it.
So would all that episode i wrote about be caught on camera.
I doubt it .
That same gang are always causing trouble on that bus and im not aware of any prosecutions or anything ever being made .
They are always stoning the bus or turning things on the outside of it, and blatently walking back in their houses which one is immediatly at the bus stop.
So i can assume the driver doesnt report anything.
END OF THE DAY...GRAFFITI (VANDALISM) IS NEVR GONAN DIE..... WAT EVER THE POLICE DO....ITS NOT GONNA STOP.....

that's what they are starting to do again and you are advised if you know the tag's to report it and the vandals if caught will go to prison.

does the 40p fare stop after 10:30pm or does it carry on now into the night because it youstn to stop at 10:30pm.

Just coming home on the 58 route -20.15 from town.
Some young teenagers (non above 14 and some younger)
Got on at st johns church on manchester road.- Deepcar.
First of all they ran up and down bus screaming , but i thought nothing of this as its the norm.
Then when the bus got to Kenworthy road(stocksbridge)a few got off and set an alarm off , the driver did nothing at first, then eventually went to turn it off. - upstairs somewhere.
He then went back to drive and during this two of the louts had opened the fire door, despite an oldish man and I shouting at them to close the door, the driver carried on driving with the door nearly hanging off its hinges.
until the bus came to a standstill.
the lights went off , the door was opened at least twice more and still the driver did nothing.
Then he set off and the bus jolted to a halt sending a few passengers careering to the front of the bus.
During all this they were shouting down the bus and insulting passengers.
One young bloke who got on who i know to have learning probs and a speech problem was very cruely humiliated by them and one of the younger louts started immitating how he spoke.
still the driver did nothing or said nothing.
Then the louts started laughing because one of the o.a.p passengers fell when the driver jolted the bus to a standstill then started it again. - another incident.
During all this despite pleas from pasengers to throw the louts off, the driver never said a word and caried on driving.
not once did the driver say to them" close the fire door"
The old man shut the door twice and in one instance nearly fell out.
they were smoking down stairs too - nothing said.
I think they must have come out of some kind of youth club or something at st johns church.
No one could say that the driver would have been in danger if he had told them off as a pensioner sorted the door out.
And both he and I told them off. most of them were about 13 yr old.
I shall report this dreadful experience to first mainline the first chance i get.
Ive lived in some pretty rough places before but non of the teenagers have been half as bad as the ones here in stocksbridge.
Its not just the vandalism its their attitude to everything, they think they can do the most horrible things and get away with it round here, for the simple reason no one ever tells them off, they just let them do anthing they want.
day in day out the bus gets stoned on kenworthy rd ,and once when it happenned a 40 odd year old man stood at one of the houses on there and just watched them do it and laughed.
Im beginning to think a lot of the stocksbridge town folk are just zombie-fied , what planet are they on.
People in other areas dont put up with things to the extent they do here.
its like Royston Vasey or something.
is there any other comment's that you would like to post about your experiances on public transport in south yorkshire.

A few years ago the cheap fare did indeed stop at 1030pm but have now changed up until end of service.

p.s have you had a bad experience on public transport in south yorkshire?
please let me know this can be like a survy and hand it into all the bus companies in south yorkshire and see what they say about it.
thanks
sheffciti.
sheffciti 07-05-2005, 18:06 most of the cameras that work are on the new low floor buses but on some services they attach a little camera at the side of the drivers mirror and records the images.
sheffciti 07-05-2005, 18:32 i know that this is from 2 years ago but this is just the sort of yobbish behaviour that we are talking about on this thread.
Girls injured by bus attack yobsBattered and bruised and lucky to be alive...
These teenage friends suffered facial injuries when two pieces of concrete were thrown through their bus window.
The girls, aged 19 and 18, were travelling home after a shopping trip to Meadowhall.
As the bus travelled though Wincobank, A-level student Elizabeth Ritchie, aged 19, was hit by flying glass as her student friend Jane Wisnieewski was struck full in the face by the second house brick-sized lump.
Castle College student Jane, of Sicey Avenue, Shiregreen, lost a tooth and needed facial surgery at the Hallamshire Hospital where doctors had to stitch her lip and face.
Police are investigating the attack on the 93 service at the junction of Wincobank Avenue and Bracken Road around 6.15pm.
Elizabeth, recovering today at home in Molineaux Road, said: "I think it is disgusting and I don't know where these idiots get their kicks from. If I had been sitting slightly to the left or right I could have been blinded or dead."
Her mum Pat added: "She could have lost her eye or we could have lost her completely.
"Someone is going to die if this carries on. It could have hit a toddler or a pensioner and they wouldn't have stood a chance."
The young women were taken to hospital by ambulance. Elizabeth suffered lacerations and a black eye but Jane had more serious injuries and now faces months of dental work to repair her damaged teeth.
Elizabeth said: "Jane was screaming and I felt a sharp stabbing pain in my eye.
"It must have been glass because there was glass everywhere. Jane was covered in blood. It was terrifying."
Bus company First said services could be withdawn if attacks continue. Spokesman Brandon Jones said: "First is working closely with police to try and apprehend the person responsible for this wreckless act of vandalism and would like to wish the two young ladies who were injured a speedy and full recovery.
"Such incidents threaten the safety of all our staff and customers."
Anyone with information should contact Attercliffe police station on 0114 2202020.

millington 08-05-2005, 19:44 i have only yesterday on the number 14 bus on castlebeck avenue some young thug etching his tag into the bus with people sitting all around him and nobody said anything to the young thug.
Cutglass 09-05-2005, 06:25 But did you say anything, that's what I meant by my post. Some of us, not all, gripe about this but are too intimidated to actually say something to them. :(
Is it worth risking the chance of the thugs turning on you for the sake of them tagging/vandalising stuff? Not a risk I want to take when I have my youngest son with me.:(

It is wise to be very carefull and weigh up the situation at the time as you would be suprised at what some of these youngsters male and female are carrying hidden in their clothing
Cutglass 09-05-2005, 08:43 It's not a risk that I'm prepared to take.
I'll moan and grumble like most people but like I said I don't want to risk getting beaten up or even stabbed just 'cos some mindless thug wants to tag or vandalise a bus. My life and my kids welfare mean far more to me than that.
they've stopped all the night buses through woodthorpe now because of ant social behaviour.
superchrome 06-06-2005, 16:55 the graffiti writers intentions are not to hurt anybody, but mearly to keep thier culture allive,we hate thugs just as much as you. i used to be a graffiti tagger, tagging is about getting fame among your own circle of people (artists) please dont asociate the two(burning papers).

But it looks awful!! Why the hell should we have to look at the 'tags' of brainless idiots who have nothing better to do with their time than get a can of coloured paint and scrawl all over buildings and vehicles. 'Fame' amongst your own circle....???????? give me strength....................................

does anyone else agree with my opinion?please let me know.

Unfortunately, no one seems to have informed the judiciary of this.
When the scumbag who was deemed to be the most prolific tagger in the Sheffield area was sent down (I think it was for about 5 years) a few years ago, the Court of Appeal reduced his sentence to Community Service or something similar. What sort of message does that send out to these anti-social vermin?
carpetviper 13-10-2005, 21:01 i used to be a driver and we could not really do much as the kids know we cannot touch them when i was younger if we did this we could except a crack i am only 26.Last year one of my friends was sacked because he threw a 18 year old off the bus for non payment and being abusive the kid had asbo's but the sheffield star appealed for the sacking and made out the kid was a saint. If i saw him in the street i wouldnt hesitate to slap him if he was that way with me.
Yellowrose 13-10-2005, 21:13 Sheffield bus drivers and many other public servants have a lot to put up with. I was pleased to see this post in a way, because mostly people use this forum to criticise people who run our public services (for example, threads have been started to knock bus drivers and postmen).
I have lived with a bus driver for 25 years. He has to put up with an awful lot dealing with the more anti social element of the public. He can do very little about it, as the previous post mentioned. Often getting involved can result in you coming off the worst.
Today, I was also in the Central Health Clinic. I could hardly hear myself think, let alone hear what the nurse was saying, as a man with a foreign accent shouted abuse as he couldnt be treated immediately. I find it unbelievable that people who offer a public service are abused in this way. Perhaps the abusers would like to try and hold one of these jobs down for a week or two ... or find out what it is like to do without our various services.
