View Full Version : Wheelchair Access property for rent needed
Shaibin05 07-09-2008, 13:47 I am trying to locate a property that has wheelchair access and also is usable by a person in a wheelchair. This is for a friend of mine who is finding it very difficult to find something that can be used by him. He is a young professional working on a work permit with BT in Sheffield city centre. He is married and is prepared to pay a decent rent as long as it will meet the requirements of a person in a wheelchair. We are stuck at this point as there are very few properties available in Sheffield fr an individual with these restrictions.
Can somebody kindly any kind of advise to help resolve this situation. We are getting desperate now. He is in hospital currently as he has been for almost six months now.
Most disabled properties are with the council and we are unable to access these as he is on a work permit and does not have access to public funds. He also does not drive and hence needs something that is in Sheffield to help get to work.
Regards and hope somebody can help. My Email is Shaijupaul@gmail.com
sumayyah 07-09-2008, 14:09 good luck, hope he finds something soon.
accessable houses are few and far between and someone elses idea of accessable might not be the same as yours as ive found recently when viewing houses
sumayyah 07-09-2008, 14:10 has he asked round the housing assosiations?
many have different criteria to the council and some do have accessable ( in their view ) homes

Plain Talker 07-09-2008, 15:42 google the accessible property register, they are based in Sheffield, but have connections all over the country, with accessible properties, whether it's to buy or rent.
Ms Macbeth 08-09-2008, 08:50 Try contacting these people http://www.inclusivesheffield.org.uk/housing.htm
If they can't offer housing, they may be able to at least offer helpful suggestions or advice
Alternatively, what about one of the new build flats in town, many of them have lift access?
Plain Talker 08-09-2008, 09:36 I'm sure I put a post up saying "google the accessible property register," (or is it that this a duplicate thread?)
Shaibin05 08-09-2008, 11:56 Many thanks for your suggestions. We are looking at all these options and will update as soon as something comes up. Would appreciate any further suggestion as well in regards to the same

You did, there were 2 threads - now merged.
Not sure if this would be any help or not, but thought i'd let you know - a ground floor flat (described by the agent as 'executive apartment :loopy:) has come empty opposite my daughter. The previous occupant was also a wheelchair user. There's parking on site and ramp to the front door. The previous occupant paid to have an adapted shower fitted bit from what my daughter had told me, he's also had to pay to have it put back to how it was previously. The flat is in Todwick (off the A57) and I can't remember if it's with Willow estate agents in Kiveton or if it's with 1stField (also in Kiveton).
There's also a ground floor flat next door to me going begging, ring 2664755 and tell them Richard from St Philips Road sent you.
Shaibin05 09-09-2008, 19:32 Both the messages are brilliant. I have contacted the number left by Rich. Will update you as soon as I hear something. Will try again tomorrow morning. Many thanks again for all your suggestions.

Any chance of getting a contact number or address at least so that I can chase this up. Regards & thanks

This building has two lifts and the accomodation is practically new. They have now moved in to the accomodation. Many thanks again for your kind support and well wishes. Regards
