slimsid2000 04-09-2008, 04:12 PM Now we all know staffies have a role to play in society (as long as they are properly controled) but what about the numbers of them? Are there too many staffies about (meaning many in need of good and loving homes), or too few (meaning the bread is in danger of extinction). or just about right?
huggybabe 04-09-2008, 04:16 PM way to many look in the pound theres loads in there + staffie cross types
Moonbird 04-09-2008, 04:30 PM Far to many it is the main breed you see where I live.
skinnydog 04-09-2008, 04:35 PM There are a lot of really bad looking Staffies that sell from as little as £100
They are bred to anything regardless of temprement.
angellic 04-09-2008, 05:00 PM Way too many, loads round here and even more in the pound. Everyones breeding them and selling them for £100 a pup, its just a quick buck to them, just look in admag.
Lotti 04-09-2008, 05:29 PM Way too many but very rarely I see one that looks like a staffy 'should'.
Which can only mean one thing to me... the wrong people are breeding them - which in turn explains why there are so many in need of loving homes.
How many well bred ones do you see in kennels?
I have voted too many, but I do fear that the 'true breed' is in danger - if only people went to the right places for them, they'd never end up in the pound in the first place because the 'right places' take them back :(
beansforyou 04-09-2008, 06:10 PM Sadly the type of people who believe the dog will give them some sort of social status are the same ones who won't pay for the right dog (ironic isn't it?) they then buy cheap, and don't feel so bad letting it go 6 months down the line because it's not cost them much.
The fact that all they've done is prove how irresponsible they are goes way over their heads, then in another 6 months time they'll do it all over again, because it must have been the dogs fault...mustn't it?
spottie2101 04-09-2008, 07:10 PM The staffe problem is not helped by the media either.
I a staffie lover through and through and have two plus a foster but its heart breaking to see all the staffes in the pound.
In answer to how many nice staffies you see in the pound you see lots, i have amazing fosters from the pound who have been staffies.
The problem is the breed have a bad reputation not helped by the media so the right kind of owners can be put off.
goldenbabe1966 04-09-2008, 09:48 PM As a first time staffy owner i can only say that they are a very loyal and loving dog not at all like the media say.

He / she looks like a right character! Love that grin:hihi: I've voted too many too, although like some of you have already mentioned the true breed is something that is hard to find

Not voted yet, but am afraid to say i will be voting to many .i dont really know what the true breed is, cos theres that many different shapes and sizes if you go by the breeding standard size my storm is a bit bigger than he should be and at 14 months old hes still got some growing to do :huh:but we love him and thats all that matters :)

he/she is a very nice looking dog ,if only people would give them a chance and start to listen to staffy owners instead of the media,if im not mistaken there is approx 70 a week murded (pts) cause no-one wants them or scared to give them a chance
waddy 05-09-2008, 04:31 PM Way too many :mad:I have a gorgeous staffy and also a gorgeous rescue bitch staffy x . I love staff's myself but agree that the idiots out there are breeding them purely for a quick buck and in my opinion they should be prosecuted even if it is just for tax evasion or claiming benefits and not declaring earning from the pups.
estweyn 05-09-2008, 05:26 PM Too many, too many crosses, too many idiots using a dog as a fashion and status symbol. Met up with a group of yobs last night on local field with two staffies, they were throwing stones at the horses in field and thought no one would tackle them because of the dogs, but being mad I walked right up the path towards them with Josh, they shifted. Mind Josh looked very threatening carrying his crab squeeqie toy!! I think its just a 'look at me, Im tough' type of thing thats come over from America with the stupid non talk that they churn out.... god help us.
I must be getting old.
But its the dogs that suffer.
However I met a real staffie this last weekend, he was gorgeous and an absolute delight, what a lovely dog.
maxddb 06-09-2008, 12:42 PM I love staffies and find it heartbreaking how many are looking for their forever homes.
