What are these like to keep? Would anyone recomment another small pet that can be contained or should I go with these? Where is best to get them from?

We have one and it is blooming evil.

Guinea pigs are lovely and sturdy and small enough not to be scary to kids. If these aren't your cuppa and you aren't scared of rats, these are even better, they are intelligent and loving and brilliant to watch.

I had one of these when I was younger and we never took it outta the cage, we daren't it was too vicious! If its a hamster you really want get a syrian one!

Thanks for all your lovely replies.

But do guinea pigs not smell and need to spend time outdoors?

Thanks for all your lovely replies.

But do guinea pigs not smell and need to spend time outdoors?

I have five in the living room, and as long as they are cleaned out regularly (three times per fortnight-ish) they won't smell. Their hay smells lovely actually!

It is nice for them to be outdoors when it's sunny-unfortunately ours haven't had much times on the garden this year, beacuse of the weather! They need a water bottle attaching to the side of their outdoor run and shade to sit in if they get too hot.

I am biased, because guinea pigs are one of my favourite animals! But they do make fantastic pets. Much easier to handle then hamsters. Pigs will tend to sit still on your laps for ages when you're watching T.V. It's lovely:)

My dwarf hamsters never bitten me! or nipped me...he's very tame though!

I think something a bit bigger would be best...for example a Syrian or guinea pigs are fantastic! If I had the room I would have guinea pigs!!
