Good day to you all,

I am a new user and a possible student to Shefield university.

I would like your opinion for Sheffield University and local life in Sheffield.

Please do not hesitate to post whatever you think i should know about the city and the university.

Any information would be appreciated..

P.s. Any Greek students in Sheffield?

Hi Arkroan :D

Sheffield is great! Good nightlife, 2 very good Unis, definitely very good City for students, nothing really to fault the place.. Apart from that the Council are a bit thick but these days what major City's council aren't? :P

We liked it enough to come back seven years after moving away!

We were students at Hallam

Hey arkroan,

Hopefully welcome to Sheffield.

When you say Sheffield University, do you mean University of Sheffield ?
I can't speak for UoS as I'm @ the other one...

Sheffield is a great city, excellent nightlife, it's hilly and far less boring to let's say Milton Keynes...
The countryside is just next to the city, the Peak Distric is one of the most beautiful places around.
Shopping is also good !

There's a huge choice of accomodation for students, individual houses (shared or single) or halls ( I storngly recommend the first option),

I hope you move to our city.

I went to Sheffield University, and love the place (Sheffield) so much I decided to stay for good.

Oh, and there were plenty of Greek students back then (1996-99)

I went to Hallam and had a great time. My old housemate was Greek and she found loads of Greek friends in Sheffield. Fez club did a few Greek nights a couple of years back, but Im not sure if they still do them - try asking in the Greek deli on Sharrowvale road, they may be able to help.

Good luck!

Yes, i mean University of Sheffield , not Sheffield Hallam University.

Thats what i've heard in general.. But the opinion of people curently living there matters most.

Thanx for all the posts..

Sheffield is really popular with international students and has a villagey feel. The nightlife is OK, there are plenty of parks and shops and it's easy to get around on public transport.
The Peak District is only a few minutes away, which makes Sheffield uniquely close to beautiful scenery and outdoorsy stuff.
If you don't mind hills, Sheffield is great.

Hi there,

I know plenty of international students in sheffield, specifically 2 Greek lads. I think there must be a fairly big greek community judging by the amount of greek resteraunts and delis.

Sheffield University has a good support network for students away from home, I would definitely reccomend it.

Hopefully see ya here!

Yep, I've known plenty of Greek people while at Sheff. I'm half Greek (Cypriot) myself. Little known fact :P

Great place for International students I reckon - there's a lot of good events put on (love all the food!), and everyone's encouraged to mingle.

imo the more foreign students the better. Makes the city a much nicer and enjoyable place.
