I am a third year journalism student at Sheffield University, preparing my final year portfolio. Included in this will be a Netherthorpe newsletter. Any information regarding local news and upcoming events for Netherthorpe would be greatly appreciated!
A couple of items spring to mind. the successful beer festival held at St Phillips Club 2-4 October, and the Volvo car blown up by young thugs with industrial fireworks.
If you want information about Area panels in Netherthorpe go here:
Netherthorpe Area Panel (http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/your-city-council/council-meetings/area-panels/netherthorpe--hillsborough--walkley)
Additionally, if you want information on planning applications in the area go here:
Planning Applications (http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/plugins/whats_new/planning/search.asp)
Incidentally, the Netherthorpe ward will no longer exist after the boundary review later this year.
thanks very much both of you, Andy I saw that fireworks story in the STAR also. I'm going to write something about it, hopefully i'll be able to find out more than the one paragraph coverage it was given there! Should anything else come to your attention please let me know! On the subject of the Netherthorpe ward changing: Do you think people who live there feel attached to the ward's name or will it change relatively unnoticed?

Netherthorpe as an area will remain, it's that bit round Netherthorpe Road and Netherthorpe School. I don't think people do get attached to ward names and some people who don't live in Netherthorpe but are in the ward resent being described as residents of Netherthorpe. For instance, people in Upperthorpe, Crookes and Birkendale.

Hi, I'm a journalism student at Sheffield Uni and I've been assigned Netherthorpe to report on.
Do you live there? Is it a nice place? Do you know anything interesting about it? If there's anything you want to rant or rave about let me know!
Thanks,
Claire xx
