huggybabe 03-09-2008, 04:28 PM hi all can someone help me find a puppy for my mom shes just lost her dog, and is wanting another her last dog was a borzoi, shes wanting a very much smaller dog now an she likes teacup maltese.is there any breeders in or around sheffield that anyone knows of. we think word of mouth is better than falling for puppy farm puppys.
thanks for reading x
skinnydog 03-09-2008, 04:43 PM Please forget teacup, by minature you mean filled with health problems.
As your mother has had a borzoi why not a whippet, I know I am biased but they are full of fun and love and very entertaining.
huggybabe 03-09-2008, 04:48 PM yeah i like whippets to but she just wants a little dog that means less walking as shes getting on a bit now. whippets need quite a lot of good long walks/runs dont they.
Lotti 03-09-2008, 05:13 PM Why not ask at RainRescue? They had one in only the other day that just wanted a safe home and didn't need many walks. They may have something to suit your mum?
huggybabe 03-09-2008, 05:20 PM good idea lotti thanks :)
Moonbird 03-09-2008, 05:30 PM Aww you should have a look at the dogs in the pound, I absolutely fell madly in love with a little golden jack russell terrier in kennel 16 I think, she isn't very old, she is tiny and really pretty :)
spottie2101 03-09-2008, 09:20 PM I have met that lttle lady too and she is a real babe, she was so small she nearly managed to get out the bottom of her kennel :hihi:
Moonbird 03-09-2008, 09:35 PM I have met that lttle lady too and she is a real babe, she was so small she nearly managed to get out the bottom of her kennel :hihi:
:hihi: I read how she was found cuddled up to the dog next door thats so sweet, she pulls that sweet face that my little Lucy used to when she needed a love, if only I could keep on adding to my dogs forever with no repercussions :hihi:
Strix 03-09-2008, 09:45 PM I second the warning about teacup breeds
they've only come about by breeding runts to runts, which has resulted in some very expensive vets bills, usually for heart conditions
if your mum doesn't want a dog who needs much exercise, a dog of 5yrs plus would fit the bill, rather than a pup who requires training and much more attention
What breed did she have before and what has she had in the past?
what sort of characteristics might she be looking for besides size?
does her new dog need to be good with kids for instance?
huggybabe 03-09-2008, 10:07 PM great dane, borzoi giant schnauzer.shes always had big dogs.she has always had puppy's to bring up an train so thats not a problem.
she just wants more of a lap dog now one she can just put in car an take with her, we( her kids are grown up an moved out and the grand kids are all in there teens).
she has spent years an years of walking dogs in all weathers 2-3 times a day everyday so one that will be happy with just a quick walk would be good. thanks for all the replys x
Moonbird 03-09-2008, 10:39 PM Olliekitten has 2 shihtzu's they are lovely little dogs, they don't seem the sort to need loads of walks, seem fairly calm and they love a cuddle
huggybabe 03-09-2008, 10:45 PM oh that sounds like what shes after thanks moonbird
Strix 03-09-2008, 10:58 PM if you have a specific breed in mind, then it's worth getting in touch with the breed rescue
it isn't too unusual for pups to crop up when somebody has thought a pup would be cute but just hadn't anticipated the damage the carpets can suffer along the way!
Would a terrier be too fiesty?
Would something like an older, slower beagle be appropriate? take one of those out to the woods, stand still and watch him/her hunt their legs off, and let them sleep for the rest of the week :D
PS - I'm not selling Brude before anybody makes me any offers! :suspect:
huggybabe 03-09-2008, 11:05 PM thank you stix i will pass all this info on to my mom like i said my mom wont thank me but shes not getting any younger.....lol
shes holding of getting new carpets now till the puppy is fully trained,i think we will have to have a day on the net looking up breed rescue places.
i like beagle's but i must addmit my fav dog is a bassett hound, but she wont get one of those :( ......lol
Strix 04-09-2008, 02:00 AM I've been researching bassets this week!
I'm in love with the hunting variety!
check out some pics of those and compare them to the droopy dogs in the showring these days!

Moonbird is already over her quota for dogs Adz!
don't you go asking her to take any more!
for starters she doesn't know how to say 'no' :suspect:
Strix 04-09-2008, 11:43 PM nice pics strix wow theres a big difference.do you like the blood hound to ? i love them there a big sturdy hound :DI'm a beagle person myself :) but could easily find houseroom for any Hamilton Stovares that may need a home :D
I love the look of a good hound - whatever sort (would probably have to be working stock if I had a bloodhound. I just can't pay money to encourage people to breed dogs with eyes like that :( ), but I'm far too fussy about not having a dog smelling house to favour a bloodhound ;) ... and drool... I'm not keen on dog drool :suspect: think I may have picked the wrong beagle breeder there though :suspect:
huggybabe 04-09-2008, 11:48 PM im a sucker for the big ears sad sad eyes an big jowles how could any be mad an say no to one of them so so sweet i couldnt have one it would be fat as a pig, i could never say no it it .would be soilt rotten :D

Brude is on a strictly restricted diet - but he's allowed to sniff stuff :D

Well I reckon that if I tried I could fit in 3 more, pity that I just couldn't walk them, vaccinate or feed them :hihi: ooh roll on my lottery win, I know its coming...it is :suspect:
