View Full Version : Junk Mail
PaulTansley 20-10-2003, 11:15 I am getting sick of all the junk mail coming through my letter box and feel that something should be done about it.
I know i,m not alone so maybe we can all do our bit to control it.
I suggest we gather the weeks junk mail an bind it together with a note saying [U]Do not send any more junk mail to my address, then stick em into a post box.
The post office will soon get sick of this happening and get the point.
As far as i am concerned they are as much to blame and so should take some of the flack.
Anybody aggree.

No I don't agree. How are the post office to know what is junk mail and what isn't? It really wouldn't be fair to blame it on the post office.
alchemist 20-10-2003, 12:21 it wont actually solve anything but i know it makes me feel beter - get the leaflets from one company and post it to another in the reply paid envelope, dont forget to remove your adress tho otherwise they will think you are asking for more!!

Sidla most of the junk mail i reckognise before i open it and it goes streight in the bin but leaflets are also delivered by the post man so your theory that the post office don't know what is junk is incorrect.

Of course the post office knows what it's delivering. It gets paid to deliver it all and that keeps the cost of postage for 'real' mail items as low as they are. This junk mail is actually subsidising every letter or parcel that we post.
If you want to stop receiving it use the website posted earlier.
The junk mail I object to is the sophisticated stuff with my name on it which, when opened, reveals yet another exclusive offer to borrow/invest money. One of the reasons I left Lloyds bank was that they couldn't stop the flow of junk mail despite several letters and phone calls.
Anyone remember the now very old Ben Elton sketch on this subject?
He talked about the vast numbers of trees (and squirrel's homes) destroyed to make paper, to make junk mail to write to him to say
Mr Bun Ulton, you may already have won £5

I hope Mr Elton doesn't surf to this site and find you describing him as very old.

Brilliant idea alchemist.
Let's all do it, shall we?
All forum members pass it on to family and friends.
After all, they've probably paid the post office for the return post anyway and it's a shame to waste it.
Maybe they'll get fed up with having to employ someone to open it all in case one of them is a genuine response!
YEAH, LET'S GO FOR IT.

The whole lot of the rest of the junk mail is in a bag waiting for the day that Onyx eventually decides to give us blue bins!!! Speed it up Onyx (http://www.onyxsheffield.co.uk/ywaste_recycling_bluebin_delivery.asp) they were due months ago!
