I walk past the Arena every day on my way from the tram stop to work, and for the past 3 days there's been about 10 or so people with their tents camped outside the Arena box office.

I assume it's because there are tickets for a big show going on sale soon, does anyone know what it might be?!? The curiosity is killing me!!

I think that's why I found it a bit of an odd sight, haven't known anyone to queue (either here or in Sydney) for a long time.

Why sit in the cold - especially with that particular area being the wind tunnel that it is - when you can sit at home or go to a nice warm public library to book tickets over the internet?

Then again maybe queueing adds to the whole experience :)

They're waiting for Daniel 'O dear' Donnell. I remember a few years back, whilst out on the town with some friends on a Friday night we almost tripped over some old biddies laying in sleeping bags outside the City Hall waiting for tickets . . . at 10.30pm!

And yet I still have no idea who he is :) Is he really that popular that he warrants fans queueing for 3+ days for tickets??

Maybe I will stop on my way back to the tram stop and ask the ppl at the Arena!

for as long as i can remember its been like this. i'm from blackburn originally and i can remember being little (not that long ago thank-you) in town of a saturday seeing tents and sleeping bags wrapped around King Georges Hall as the tickets went on sale on Monday. Its very scary how obsessive these people are, mainly old women i think. But they've always done it and probably have no idea how to use the net. Suppose its like a little holiday for them!

Has anyone else seen the giant billboard posters of The O'Donnell? They're horrid. He's wearing a leather jacket, pointing in a matey fashion, and the legend reads "Daniel in Blue Jeans"... not "Daniel in Shallow Grave" as some would hope.

People go down and queue over-night (and for days, as shown by these Daniel O'Donnel fans and Cliff Richard fans a few years ago) because the first few rows are held for people who go down and queue for the tickets, rather than book them over the phone. If there's no one queuing in the morning then it is possible to get front row tickets over the phone, but being first in the queue from earlier on is very likely to guarantee them

I've done it over night once, and it's not pleasant, and I would not do it again.

thing is he cant be that crap if anyones prepared to stand outside for tickets it proves hes popular i once did a all night outside the arena in 92 for tickets and that was a total let down

Ok, maybe so for Daniel tickets, but a lot of people also do it for other acts for this reason.

I once queued for several hours (not overnight, that's saaa-aaa-aaaad!) for tickets for Alice Cooper at the Arena, was chuffed to get on the front row, then on the night of the concert discovered that it was right at the end of the row and because of stuff on the stage I couldn't actually see anything!

I've never queued for show tickets before but i did queue from something stupid like 3am with my mum for the Blades vs. Crystal Palace in 1997, i was only nine and i loved every bit! There were people in sleeping bags there too.

I say if thats what they are into leave 'em to it! :loopy:

Daniel O'Donnell does things like invite bus loads of old ladies to his garden for a cup of tea. His appeal is like that of Cliff Richard, whose wholesome, sexless and gentlemanly image attracts them like flies.

Fair play to him, he's got his niche and he's doing extremely well out of it, despite being an average crooner.

Why are there people camped outside the Arena ?

I wonder if they could be Travellers ?
If not , it's possible they could be a "breakaway" group from the Des O' Connor Fan Club , who have somehow wandered off to the wrong venue.
Alternatively they could just be odd , in that they get their jollies from camping outside the Arena ?

Just wondering, are they still camped outside?
Bless them!

No, they're no longer there, I think the tickets finally went on sale on Saturday.

There was, however, another group sat outside (a different side of the arena) on folding chairs and huddled under blankets.

Perhaps a trend has been started?!?
