You have the support of most bus drivers on this one. They ( First South Yorkshire Buses) should have never messed around with the 2/59 service. It has never been the same since they removed it from going to Malin Bridge. Captain_Scarlet 05-05-2005, 11:45 I used it coming back from work at Meadowhell Retail Park back to bottom 'o Woodseats Road. Problem was the 2 was systematically 30 seconds later than 97 (not A) and I could do nowt but miss every time. Andy C 05-05-2005, 12:10 The 12 was withdrawn because the Transport Executive stopped subsidising it. Did anyone actually use it? How many journeys did it cover that aren't possible by one of 51/52/60 and a short walk? The main damage was done when the 2/59 was axed. Sheffield is very lacking in orbital bus routes, especially at my end of the city. To drive a car from Bradway to Ecclesall/Bents Green/Fulwood etc is simpy a case of heading up Abbey Lane to Whirlow and onto Ecclesall Road and beyond. To drive from Bradway to Mosborough/Crystal Peaks you simply do Meadowhead/Gleadless/Ridgway. This takes 20 minutes maximim. By bus you have to go into town, which takes half an hour, then get another bus back out of town in a similar direction to where you just come from, for another half hour or more! mavis 05-05-2005, 13:37 thankyou for your replies and support,i can only speak for my area, and that is that people in the lydgate lane, coldwell lane area, who now dont have a bus that serves them,a lot of the people in this area who did use the 2/12 are pensioners, therefor cant walk far for a bus and certainly dont own a car,in my road alone out of the 20 houses 11 households use this bus!!yes it was well used, most certainly in the day...as for the other areas of sheffield it covered,i dont know....for the people in my area it was the only close bus to catch without a steep walk to either crosspool or crookes,as you know we live at the top of the world up here!a direct bus to town, hallamshire hospital, broomhill, and even meadowhall (albeit the long scenic way round!)for the old dears who arent quite as young and athletic as they might have been it was a lifeline...so please do show us your support. i have double checked today and the meeting is definately to be held at st columbas church crosspool,7pm mon 9th may....please do attend thankyou.. Andy C 05-05-2005, 15:01 Perhaps you should push for one bus an hour on the 51 could be diverted - normal route to Broomhill, then Crookes Rd, Lydgate Lane, Manchester Road and Coldwell Lane, then rejoin normal route down Sandygate Lane to Lodge Moor. Could be renumbered 51B or something. I'm sure no extra drivers or vehicles would be required to do that if they tinkered slightly with the timetable. tara 06-05-2005, 17:32 Shouldnt these posts be in the Anything to do with Buses and drivers thread.? As far as I know, 51 doesn't come anywhere near Carterknowle Road, Woodseats, Scarsdale or Derbyshire lane... It doesn't go to Meadowhell either... silverknight 07-05-2005, 08:38 If you read the first tread and Andy C suggestion it was to provide a possible replacement for the old service 2/12 in the Crosspool area. In the Woodseats area changes to services 1/33 20/20a have provided a partial replacement over the old 1/2/59 route. Neither the 20s or the 33 go as far as Batemoor or serve Meadowhall. They don't go to Abbeydale or Ecclesall either. Fun thing though, they do go to town like the other 10 services... woppee silverknight 07-05-2005, 10:21 Sevice 1 is now a Hillsbrough to Jordanthorpe service where it then becomes a service 33 back to city and onwards to Hillsborough, so in effect is a New circular route. If you read the tread it says service 1/33 20/20a provide PARTIAL replacement over SOME sections of route. The buses will show service number( If display blind are working!)33 between Norton Lees and Jordonthorpe and service 1 from Dyche road. Andy C 07-05-2005, 11:43 74 and 85 goes from bottom of Woodseats road up Carterknowle Road onto Ecclesall Road. 8 goes from Heeley/Abbeydale up to Nether Edge and Hallamshire Hospital. So certain journeys are still possible, however there are links that are lost and now require a journey via city centre which takes about 3 times longer. silverfish 07-05-2005, 12:41 I used to use the 2 bus to get from Carter Knowle Bottom up to Crookes, now it's a total pain to have to go into town and out again for the same journey - takes longer, costs more. Feel free to quote me at your meeting - sorry can't be there. The 8 is once an hour, so as far as I'm concerned it doesn't exist, they might as well get rid of it... Unless a bus operates often enough for me to be able to walk to a bus stop and get it without having to plan in advance and stand for 30 minutes waiting for it beeing late then I don't take it. that's the reason I stopped using 2 & 59 all those 2 years ago... So to go to Meadowhell it's like 20/25/53 then X78 or even the ... Tram **cough** rip off 1.40 return on top of 8 quid a week **cough**. Yeah I'm sarcastic, but I'm really fed up... I feel for some drivers with who I used to work with, but really... Taking the Michael ! WallBuilder 07-05-2005, 21:22 A few years ago I was starting to call the Hallamshire hospital my home from home as I was going there so frequently. I live at Woodseats and find it totally bizarre that a large slice of the city has lost both of the buses that go to one of the major hospitals. Aren't we in the age where public transport is supposed to bebecoming better and more geared to peoples needs? Andy C 08-05-2005, 10:54 It gets sillier here in Bradway - there is no bus to either Hallamshire Hospital or Northern General (we used to have the 75 to the Northern General until that was axed and replaced with the 25A). However we have a direct bus to the Chesterfield Royal!!! |
