laura
looby lou 01-09-2008, 17:03 just changed my sig, its the first one thanks
MBardwell 01-09-2008, 19:23 I like the site, even though being a young male im not keen on the subject matter!! I think thats got to be good, the fact that i am still looking at the site even though im not really interested in the subject. One thing that does annoy me with websites though is when you cant click back on your toolbar at the top past the homepage, you are sort of locked on the site. I know it only takes a second to actually get back to where you want to be but its a small thing that frustrates me. All in all though, good site, easy to read and easy on the eye etc.

looby lou 01-09-2008, 21:02 thanks mark, not sure how I can change that, I am not very good with computers so if you know please let me know
MBardwell 02-09-2008, 07:29 im not that great with them myself but if you try PMing Eda49 he may be able to help, he reconstructed my website so i would have thought he would know.

sharpend 02-09-2008, 08:16 Hi Lou, nice clear design & good quality photos:thumbsup:
Get some testimonials or remove the page completely
Ditto the blog page - also in firefox 3 - the underline strikes through the phone number making it look like its crossed out
Next thing to look at is the words you use -
The home page has very "static" words & phrases - they don't excite me (but I am already married...)
based in sheffield, blah blah,boring....
SPELL OUT in GRAPHIC DETAIL what a great day the happy couple will have because of YOUR SERVICES
Quick example
24 hour emergency helpline available for clients
Could be changed to 24Hrs Panic Line EXCLUSIVELY for clients
OK I have gone over the top with the bold but hopefully you get the idea
Have a look at our about
http://www.sharp-end-training.co.uk/about.html
and doesn't that it doesn't say established since 1937, free estimates, quality workmen, blah drone blah... - All boring....
I haven't trawled through the code or anything, but I'd echo the comments above - though strike through effect is also on Ie7.
however we are willing to travel further afield whenever possible
'whenever required' surely? And whats wrong with capital letters, especially if you're using full stops!
I like the images, and the reflection effect (may have to borrow the idea myself!;)) but maybe think of slightly resizing or moving the homepage one in favour of a bit more info being visible as the page opens. I'd also say a bit more about the services on the front page, maybe some snippets to tempt people to look into it further.
Get rid of the hit counter - just tells everyone how few people are looking at your site. Also the 'made on a mac' logo, will your cutomers really care how you made it?

would become
time and effort is NO OBJECT to us making sure that you have the best day of your life...
looby lou 02-09-2008, 11:28 thanks everyone!! I don't think its too bad for the 1st attempt, but with your comments I am sure it will even better. btw love the panic line idea sharpend
sharpend 02-09-2008, 11:34 1st attempt was good.
If you are looking at changing the text, feel free to PM some ideas and I will give you some ideas (FOC of course)
looby lou 02-09-2008, 16:10 thanks sharpend I am thinking of changing the text, I will be in touch!
THANK YOU SO MUCH :)
sharpend 03-09-2008, 07:09 I will be in touch!
OK but depending on how busy I am, you will either get a reply straight away or 2 weeks later...
Just a further thought. Your clients need to TRUST you so adding a (good) mugshot would be a good move.
If not a mugshot then an action photo of you stood with clipboard doing your stuff, pointing or something
Had a quick look round, some comments follow. Please don't take them personally, overall I liked the general appearance of the site, but you asked for comment ;)

"click on the link below" ... why? Why can't I click directly on the text saying I have to go to another site to see your blog?
On the same page there is a line running through one of the phone numbers, that may be a compatability issue with browser I'm using (Flock, which runs same rendering engine as Firefox).
The 'made on a mac' icon at the foot of each page seems amateurish to me - as a visitor I don't care how you created the site.
You have your phone numbers and email on every page I looked at, yet still have a 'contact' page? Is there really a need for both?
Why do you use a @me email address instead of @littlewhitebookwedding address? Use your domain name for email, looks more professional.
Putting your email address in plain text in your website (mailto: ...) is a beacon for spammers to harvest. Might be worth embedding in an image which sends info to a php mail script to protect your email address from harvesters. Or go the whole hog and implement a proper contact form.
Amanda88t 05-09-2008, 15:20 i agree with 'DaFoot' regarding the contact me form and contact details being on every page. why dont you - rather than have your details have a link to your contact me page.
seriously avoid putting detials like your email address on your website - you will be inundated with spam!
http://www.amandataylorphotography.co.uk/contact/ this is what i have as a contact sheet... works very well
looby lou 05-09-2008, 17:34 well thats me pretty busy this weekend!
Thanks for the comments, I will be asking about the updated site as soon as its is done :D
