Im looking for a puppy or maybe a young adult (female). kath196 01-09-2008, 12:42 Hi Helmi I don't know of any around this area, The nearest one that I found was in Oldham, The only others that I know are in Hull. Kath Strix 01-09-2008, 14:27 if you're looking for a pedigree pup, the best place to go is a champ dog show some breeders are more interested in taking your money than they are in breeding good dogs, so if you get yourself to a show, you'll get to meet many of them in one place, and get to know who is who and what their breeding principles are by talking to them all  make sure you only buy from a breeder who has a lifetime returns policy - not so much so you can return your dog, but it's usually a good indication that a breeder really cares about the dogs they bring into this world expect to have to put your name down and wait for a litter to arrive - again, if a breeder is advertising in the papers or on the internet, they aren't breeding dogs for homes they have lined up, they're likely to be churning them out with scant regard for the dogs themselves Check the pedigree. If they are supposedly sired by a dog from another breeder - google and ring that breeder too to check the pedigree is correct. I recently had occasion to speak to the breeder of a sire of a pup, but he was flabbergasted at my suggestion his dog was the sire - his dog hadn't been out to stud at all within the period that'd be necessary for him to have sired this dog! helmi 01-09-2008, 15:42 Hi, thanks kath and strix. I am looking for a pedigree pup. I'm aware of all the problems that are possible with buying a puppy, and also I'm prepared to wait for the right puppy to come along as I would like to breed if the dog is good enough :) My problem is that I'm not very familiar with how things work here in England, and also I don't have a car so it might be difficult to get to a show if it's not very close :) If I could find a puppy even if it's a bit farther away I'm sure I could get transport though. Do you know if there is a tibbie association or something where I could find breeders, I found some web pages but they were a bit messy so I couldn't really find any information. Or if you know a good breeder pm me the information and I can contact them :) Strix 01-09-2008, 15:50 some shows are pretty easily accessible by public transport - Crufts at the NEC, Leeds at Harewood House, and I think there's one at the race course at Doncaster too Pedigree masterfoods produce a show calender, but Lotti knows where else to get one online If you're hoping to breed from your pup, you will need to express this to the breeder you're planning to purchase from as pups usually come with an endorsement to prevent you from KC registering a litter that's unauthorised - after all, it's their kennel name that's going on the pedigree! I'd always recommend talking to breeders face to face rather than establishing a 'relationship' electronically. The whole 'dog world' can be an absolute minefield, so you need to forge friendships carefully! (as the breeders you don't purchase from will presumably be ones you'll contact at a later date for matings) I'm sorry I don't know any breeders of this breed - I've not seen any at match nights locally, but I have been away from that environment for a couple of years now ;) If you're wanting to travel to a show, you can always post on here and see if anybody fancies a petrol money share to the event btw |
