Depends what features you want. For me, Orange SPV C500 (http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/show/handset/orange_spv_c500/detail) I reckon.

you need to have a idea of what features you want in order to define what is 'best'.
I'm not sure what tacky covers have to do with anything though.

i agree there are lots of different phones for different people.

i just got a black v3, possibly the worst phone ever, but it looks sweet!

i like the features in the SE k700i and s700i

and the next step up is the orange spv c500

I like the new E720, my gf's got it and it makes my old E700 look really really old. Its Stylish and now has the 1mp camera, bluetooth, mp3 player and all the other extras I want :(

A couple of my mates have the Orange SPV, and they are great personal organisers and mini computers, but not great as phones. You often have trouble communicating with the bluetooth, and having microsoft OS they frequently crash and take ages to start.

The best phones for texting are Nokias without question.

I currently use a Samsung D500, and it's great. Has fab camera and MP3 playing, and flash / torch. And with the flip slide is real slick.

Samsung have recalled thousands of the D600's due to software issues and failure to charge. They are still be sold in the stores so be aware if you are thinking about getting one.

Currently have the Samsung E720.....Great phone, but spotted a motorola v3...so am selling the E720 for that, but I deffo would still recommend the E720. Before that I had the Samsung D500, another top phone from Samsung- The best thing about it for me was the camera, possibly the best camera I have seen on a phone.

I've had 2 Sony Ericcson phones in the past, namely the T300 and the T610, both have had crap screens that were impossible to see in bad light, and neither worked very well with my hearing aid as I'm deaf... I've since gone back to using a Nokia and it works perfect, even has a proper hearing aid mode, and does all teh fancy stuff like MP3 ringtones, has a camera, and downloads videos, only downside is lack of Bluetooth.

Depends what you want it for.
For me, my SPV C550 (http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/show/handset/orange_spv_c550/detail/pay_monthly) rocks - MP3 (syncs with Windows Media on PC), video (FULL movies at 320x240 resolution), adequate camera, Bluetooth, seamless syncing with Outlook at home and work (over Bluetooth and not having to mess around with Nokia or SE's awful PC software), many applications available (including my favourites - Office document viewer and automatic profile switching when arriving at certain cell locations), GPS software available, any wav/mp3 file as ringtone, IR, many games (including Doom, Gameboy emulators etc), class 10 GPRS, hugely customisable and easily unlockable.
Kind of wish I hadn't dropped it and broken the front of whilst drunk last week :-(

Hmm, might have a look at that next year when my contract's up for renewal, depending on whether it works with me hearing aid of course.

I've just got a D600 and I love it !!

I have absolutely no idea how to work it but it looks very pretty and its slidy so that does it for me :D

I recently got a PEBL. It is also very pretty :D

The only problems so far is that there is no counter to monitor the number of texts sent and the internal memory is non-expandable so I can only store one MP3 ringtone :(

Camera is quite good too. I used it for some photos for work.
And the slidey mechanism is fantastic. Just go to a store and have a play if you want to see what I mean :)
