Just got a new laptop, which has 6 mnths free Norton,done a search on the Forum and very confused about what Spyware to use.Would appreciate any advice on what is the best.

because they cut a deal with the manufacturers - same as microsoft windows - there are better options than windows as an operating system too!

AVG is free to download and usually comes recommended on forums - try that instead of Norton :thumbsup:

Norton is to be avoided as it can cause no end of problems. I would not buy a laptop if it was on it and activated as ironically, it used to be far more difficult to unistall Norton than remove most viruses. Though I seem to recall it isn't so bad now.
If you haven't activated it, there should be no need to uninstall.
This lot http://www.kaspersky.com/ seem to be the best currently. I used to use Zone Alarm, but have been trying Kapersky of late as ZA seemed to be falling behind a bit.

i like antivir and comodo, but once installed comodo (the basic mode) i also disable defence mode (right click the shhield by clock , hover over defence+ and change to disabled) - it annoys me, and i dnt really need that much security on windows as it is not my main OS

As Strix said use AVG free edition. As far as i know Sygate personal firewall still takes some beating. Fair enough it's no longer supported but firewalls don't get updated that often anyway.

you must use the norton removal tool or you will never get rid of it.
i use avast antivirus. its real time scanning and auto update.
free to download and use. it works, unlike norton.

Just to second everyone else, Norton is the worst program ever written. It doesn't work and will destroy your computer. Remove all traces posthaste.

My vote is for Finder on the Mac as being the programme that is the worst ever.
At least you can remove Norton and use something better. Finder is part of the OS so you are simply stuck with it.
