View Full Version : Poorly Hamster :(

My little hammy had matted fur all around his ear/face this afternoon when he first surfaced. There appears to be a lump in his ear that is oozing what I can only imagine to be lymph (its not bloody enough to be blood) Its an odd looking lump- almost like very tiny frog spawn without the black bits.

He's being seen at the vets tomorrow morning (I'm so glad that they open 7 days a week!) and fingers crossed he's going to be ok, but as he's over 2 now, I have this feeling he wont be coming home.

He's bright enough in himself and is eating and drinking and I don't think its too painful, he certainly attacked the cotton bud with gusto when I tried to clean the matted fur for him - ungrateful little get, he can do it himself now :hihi:

Just wondering if anyone had seen anything like this before and could shed some light on it. Its going to be a long night worrying.

And how does one become so attached to 160g of fluff?!

Well he's cleaned himself up - good job seeing as he didn't want his mummy to do it.

He also met the rabbit for the first time this evening too - I had him in the rabbits cardboard box whilst cleaning out his cage (anything he can't climb out of) and forgot the rabbit was still roaming. Treacle went to jump into his box, saw this ¨thing¨ and I've never seen him run away that fast before. He then spent a good half an hour cowering behind the sofa. Silly rabbit. Pidge didn't seem to mind the brainless fluff ball and just ignored him.

Will let you know how he gets on. Hope it is just a cyst and that it wont take numerous trips to the vet :p. We've discussed it and he'll get all the treatment he needs so long as it isn't too invasive. When we bought him we agreed that no matter how much he cost to put right, if he became sick he'd get proper treatment quickly. After all, no matter the size, he is a little life and should be treated as such (I draw the line at creepy crawlies)

Right, got back from the vet and Pidge has come home!

He has an ulcer in his ear - it wont heal apparently, but so long as he's happy and relatively healthy then its just TLC.

I feel so sorry for the poor little mite but the best I can do is just to keep loving him.
