Hiya!

I've had an idea and was wondering how many of you forummers would be interested?

I was thinking about having a big Sheffield Forum BBQ in the coming months - we could all put together to hire a venue and purchase the food and could turn it into a charity raising event?

It's probably a daft idea but what do you think? :)

Great idea! You could raise money for the Hillsborough Walled Garden...

Or the Samaritans..... :)

Actually, I'd be game for this and would even offer to bring some food along! :)

Who's got a ginormous garden? :)

sparklesista: I thinks its a fab idea.

We could have a cute dog competition
put the mods in stocks and throw wet sponges at them
(soz kristian!!)

it would be a great laugh - definately a big event to organise though.

Count me in.

surely if we used a local park we would just need council permission and shouldnt have to pay for the event if it was to raise money for local charities that is.

Great Idea!

I think Rother Valley has some BBQ areas and there's lots of room, things to do, toilet facilities etc

Count me in

Yay! I'm glad I had a good idea for a change! :suspect:

It will be best to have it in the month of July/August as we have more chance of sunshine so that gives us some time to plan! :)

I'm sure we would get loads of support for it if it's a charity event - the local radio stations would help with the publicity, right? :)

It seems lots of you would like to raise the money for different charities - maybe we could split the funds raise between several chosen charities? :)

Great idea!!!

I can't make the 16/17th July though. There's an event on at shirebrook valley that some friends are coming up for. I dunno what it is - they told me! Apparently Mr Motivator will be there :suspect: and the guy from the 'Really Wild Show'.

I like the idea of a cute dog competition

Wouldn't it be better nearer town?
Isn't rother valley a little difficult to get to for lots of people?
(not me, I could walk there)

Love the bouncy castle idea!

How about one of those spheres full of bungee ropes?

as it would be a charity event and as long as it was well organised its pretty easy to scrounge things off people or get them cheaper so could contact some of the bus companies and ask for either a free bus or cheaper rate bus in return for some free advertisement. same could go for the food/drink and any games we need

Still looking, but here's something for some ideas:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/p.urquhart1/FCLHire.htm

I have seen this thing outside supermarkets and in Edinburgh just after new year. It's a huge steel frame with several bungee cords and a harness - and perhaps a trampoline. Looks like great fun

great idea, hope it gets off the ground, count me in.

My tips as I have orgainised charity stuf before

Dont think too big - think small for your first one

Try and jump on the back of something - it will help to get the numbers up- maybe use the Sheffield Fayre - Norfolk park as a good starting point.

Think cash - how are you going to fund buying food/booze ect
Pay up front/Bring your own.

I like the idea of splitting the charity funds.

A live band would be good too.

This is really taking off, youre gonna have a full time job sparklesista soon!!!

Happy to help with the beer tent!!

best way to go about it is find a venue, see what we can get donated, work out the other costs then decide an entry fee .
most businesses would jump at chance of free advertisement at things like this and others are just nice!

Probaly need to keep it fairly informal though as not to break health and safety rules and food regs .Especially if you are selling tickets different legistslation kicks in.

a meetup in a country park sounds like the best idea for the first one- if everything goes well then arrange something a bit bigger next time and so on!!

designbunny
04-05-2005, 12:31
Yes, the reason they don't charge for Sheffield Fayre is to keep it open to all, but also because paying to get into an event means you have to look at complex health & safety issues, as well as insurance and security issues.

Its best to keep the first one low key if possible, and then once we know that has worked well, then bigger BBQ's can follow!

What about Devonshire Green? Perhaps the Forum would like to help out with buy 1 get one free drinks or something! They've had marquees there before.

Or Heeley Millennium park - thats got loads of space.

04-05-2005, 13:17
Well done Sparklesista: youve really got this thing running.....

What about selling raffle tickets - three winners to choose their own personal charities (Local charities a priority).

As I dont know how to set up a 'vote for' list maybe it would be advisable at this point in time for one of the mods to attach a list of persons wanting to help so we can all vote. Its great everyone wants to help but gets a little crazy organising....just an idea... Iam crap at organising.

Know Ive mentioned it before but can someone organise a doggy competition just to keep me happy. Considering there are so many dog lovers on the forum and it may even go on to develop a dog walking section. I can see the headlines now

"Manic dogs set loose in Graves Park"

Sorry back on thread. Iam willing to assist where I can nothing too taxing though.

I LURVE PARTIES

I hope we can get it up and running - bikini's, booze, bbq, bouncy castles - I can't wait! :heyhey:

designbunny
04-05-2005, 15:50
The raffle sounds like a great idea - its easy to buy books, or we could get some printed. If every member of the forum bought just one ticket we'd need at least 11,871 tickets!

I'd suggest making a list of all the things which we need to make this thing happen - i.e. prizes, food, booze, entertainment etc and then get people to put their names down for each thing they'd like to help with.

Bear in mind, last year we worked really hard to get the Trust organised for the Sheffield Fayre & 8 months disappeared very quickly!! There was plenty to do!

I did a BBQ at the Earl last weekend for about 100 people. If you want to do it there on a Sunday Afternoon I'm happy to do it. Blimey!!! i have just been reading all the replies to this bbq suggestion and nothing appears to have been sorted!!! unfortunately everybody can't be pleased so i think like many people have suggested you should:

1. pick a date
2. choose a venue like rother valley
3. fetch food and drink for yourself and a
disposable barbacue
4. someone fetch an acoustic guitar/bongo drums
5. everbody get drunk!!!

keep it simple!!! - the most important thing is to meet up and all have an enjoyable day together.

cheers

The Tuesday Club BBQ will be taking place on Sat July 16th.

Free entry to the daytime so you could meet up there. As with all TTC stuff it's open to non-students.

Nice beer garden venue, cheap drinks, good music on, and no-one would have to cook.
