Can anyone help me?

I have an odd shaped bathroom which means i have plenty of room to put plants, the shape of the room means i can cater for plants that like lots of light or ones that don't like it so much.

I have tried a few before but they never last longer than a year, i think because of the humidity?!?

Does anyone have a healthy, friendly plant in there bathroom? If so can you tell me what it is?

Thanks x

I've always had spider plants, ferns and cacti in my bathroom. Spider plants are very hardy and cope anywhere so long as you water them once in a while, more often in summer. Ferns love the atmosphere but need more water and cacti need watering very rarely so the water in the air seems to reduce that.
Hope that helps.

I thought some plants would do well in a bathroom BECAUSE of the humidity??? We used to have a spider plant in our bathroom which always did very well and produced lots of babies! However, I do remember trying ferns which didn't survive (think one was a boston, other was a maidenhair).

Try African violets or cape primroses; both like warm, humid, well-lit bathrooms.

For a cool bathroom, choose cyclamen to add colour. To add fragrance to your bathroom, try forced hyacinths or paperwhites in winter, Easter lilies in spring, and madonna or ginger lilies in summer.

(just a quick snippet I found on google)

Hope it helps! :)

My thoughts exactly!

I also tried maidenhair fern which promptly got some horrid disease and die a miserable death, poor thing, shame though, very pretty!

The problem with bathrooms is the huge temparature range, cold at night (usually) and hot and steamy when you're having a shower, a lot of plants can't take that kind of swing, they like the environment constant.

With that in mind you need realy tough plants.

rubber plants, aspidistra (spelling?), spider plants, cacti, mother-in-laws tongue, yukkas, etc. should be ok.

I have most of my plants in the bathroom because it gets lots of light and can get humid. your not overwatering them are you? Also try rainwater and not tap water..

No, i don't think so, have loads of plants round house which are all lovely and healthy and the ones in the bathroom always get the same treatment but i think they just don't like me

Will try the rain thing tho (but hopefully won't get chance due to sunny shines!)

I've got a mother-in-laws tongue plant in my bathroom and it's taking over - you can have it if you want it!

I've got a philodendron - sweetheart plant - and it thrives. I hardly seem to water it and it does fine with the steam and the little light that gets through the window.

My mother always swears rubber plants will grow anywhere. But Spider plants are known for being hardy too.

We did have a giant spider plant in a hanging basket in the bathroom, it got bigger and bigger and I kept re-potting it, then one night it pulled the ceiling down :(
