View Full Version : Attempted abduction from Firshill school
At 3.10 yesterday afternoon a Y5 boy was waiting in the school playground when he was grabbed from behind and marched towards Abbeyfield park. His abductor pushed a knife up to his back and told him to keep walking. This was during all the hustle and bustle of picking-up time with loads of parents and other children around. Luckily, by chance the boy's father saw him with this stranger on the street and went up to them (the mother was waiting at school for him), and the abductor ran off. I have only heard this at the school gates this morning and don't have any more information- my thoughts are with the lad and his family who are extremely traumatised. I have heard nothing on the news yet, surely people should be made aware when something like this happens, so they can be vigilant?
Maybe there will be something in the Star tonite? I hope they get him. My thoughts go out to the boy and his family. When something like this happens it just makes you think, this afternoon i will meet my daughter at the school gate, instead of meeting her at the top of the road.
what school was it hatter?

Firshill, just off Barnsley Road.
OMG! I'm surprised we've not heard about this before now - another couple of minutes and who knows what could have happened!?
For someone to even attept to abduct a child when there are so many people around is really scarey, this person must be caught and quickly.
arkthelad 04-05-2005, 14:54 I find this really shocking; as noted up thread, for this to be attempted at one of the busiest times of the school day, implies the person is either mentally ill or impulsive and stupid.
The police have been informed, right?
Lets hope they find this nut job before he trys again next time the child might not be so lucky.
susa41981 04-05-2005, 16:36 I cant believe this. My little brother goes there and my mum hasent mentioned anything to me and its not been it the paper. How can this be kept secret? Is this actually true?
The police have been informed but they haven't got him yet. Apparently it was Osgathorpe park not Abbeyfield that he was being taken to.
susa41981 05-05-2005, 14:46 This is a complete lie. If something like this had happened then the parents would have been informed.

I agree with this - schools have a duty of care to inform parents of incidents like this.
I've also checked out the South Yorkshire Police Website News and Appeals and this "incident" isn't mentioned.
why would someone want to lie about something like this, its awful. have you found out wether its true or not hatter?
if it is a lie the person who started it is just twisted
I am only saying what I have been told by other parents at my son's school. I agree that parents should have been informed which is why I posted this topic, I am really shocked that the school has said nothing on this matter. The latest information on the police website is nearly a week old- so are we supposed to take it that there have been no crimes to report in Sheffield in the last few days?
susa41981 05-05-2005, 15:12 I'd certainly like to hear a response from hatter who started the thread
I've had a word with a couple more parents today, and it seems most people within the school have heard of this 'incident', but whether it actually happened or whether it's a case of chinese whispers is unclear (if it's the latter- let's hope so- then I've helped fuel the fire by posting the subject on here, though I haven't told anyone within the school as I don't speak to that many people there). It is odd that there has been no mention in the media, people are talking about 'child protection' issues and confidentiality, so maybe it's a domestic incident-I don't know. I still feel that the school should make a statement either to quash the rumours or to let people know what's going on.
