View Full Version : The New Breed of Rock Bands
I've been very impressed with Airbourne, Black Tide & Operator this year, quite strong debuts.
If there are anymore you think I should know about let me know (prefer melody and big guitars over shoutyness and 'experimental)
NEKRO138 29-08-2008, 14:09 If you like that kind of stuff, try Turbonegro.

I know a lot of this is maybe more stoner/heavy but if you don't like it, you don't like it.
Cheers, yeah been a big turbonegro fan since bout 97, was gutted when they split up, but the return was good, Supersuckers are ok.
I don't like some you have mentioned as they are a bit too stoner / bar room sludge... but i'll check out all the ones i've not heard of. cheers
sugar cain 29-08-2008, 16:40 im liking the way rock is going too. enjoyed airborne even if on a personal level they are a bunch of arrogant midgets.
it good were stepping away from emo rock should be loud and fun.
gonna keep an eye on this thread. my music taste got stuck somewhere in the early 90s and havent liked much new since then, so whats top of your list?

Nekro, just worked through all your postings....my findings (i'm quite a tough music critic so hard to please haha)
- Open Hand was interesting and most original
- Datsuns i've heard b4 I think, catchy and fun but prob bore of it after a bit
- GU Medicine, i've missed theses a few times, i've missed out, they are pretty good.
I'll check more over weekend...oh if you havent already..you'll love Gluecifer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eB6D6VXi3BA&feature=related
NEKRO138 30-08-2008, 11:14 Good posts. Have albums by all the bands mentioned so far apart from Black Tide and Pride of Lions.
Yes, the GU Medicine song I put up here isn't he best, but it's the only one with a video. They have two albums which are brilliant.
And yeah, I love Gluecifer. I forgot to mention Hellacopters too.
Classic Rock 30-08-2008, 11:17 Black Tide have been played to death on Radio One. Whenever I tune in it's being played. For a young LA band, that's pretty good going. They must have a helluva good manager and label to get them continuous airplay like they've had.
Airbourne got a lot of airplay when first launched but I've not heard/seen much of them in recent months.
Funny how both bands mentioned here sound so similar to other big named rock bands out there. Airbourne being AC/DC soundalikes and Black Tide being very LA Guns sounding.

I personally think Black Tide take best bits of several bands, I can hear bits of Guns N Roses, Iron Maiden, Metallica and even a dash of 80's hair metal ala Slaughter...all good points though! and the vocals were recorded when he was 15???? crazy!!!
NEKRO138 30-08-2008, 14:24 Oh and there's Wolfmother but you'll probably have heard them.
