View Full Version : Where are all the à la carte restaurants ?
malton_s5 04-05-2005, 07:42  If there are any good resaurants left in our around Sheffield can somebody tell me were ?
Ever were you go its either Set menu ! Fast food !
Were ho ! were are the RESTAURANTS
you could take the one you "LOVE" for that Table for two Candle Light DINNER ?????????????????????
DanSumption 04-05-2005, 07:49 There aren't nearly enough, but there are one or two good ones around. Thyme in Crosspool is pretty good. Greenhead House Restaurant in Chapeltown is wonderful, though very tiny (it's basically a converted living room) so you have to book well in advance. I've also had some very good à la carte food upstairs at West Ten wine bar on Fulwood Road.
I like Froggies Bistro on London Road for a romantic meal.
We went to a restaurant last Saturday night at Carlton -in-Lindrick.
It is only 10 minute drive from Dinnington it's called Lindrick lodge hotel .
A lovely a-La-Carte menu, Lobster etc.
It cost us £260 for six of us, but well worth it.
See it Here (http://www.lindricklodgehotel.co.uk)
noseyrosie 04-05-2005, 12:01 I don't want to sound like a retard....but what's the difference between a la carte and a set menu like in most restuarants?

Hassop Hall
Peacock at Owler Bar
and several others in the Peak District
The Old Vicarage at Ridgeway - quite expensive (about £50 per person) but food is out of this world!
And the service is first class

I thought the Old Vicarage was nice, but not worth the amount of money they charge.
DanSumption 04-05-2005, 15:12 Isn't the Old Vicarage South Yorkshire's only Michelin-starred restaurant? I'd love to eat there, but have yet to try it.

a la carte is individually priced dishes for each course.
set menu is set price for usually 2 courses, 3 courses etc
set menu is also sometimes called table d'hote.
hope this clears it up:)
i know as i am a chef:thumbsup:

archer road - if you go on abbeydale road and keep going pass tescos its the left when you come to a set of traffic lights and then its on your right, but the car parks on your left
venus restaraunt @ dinnington (used to be Deans)
a la carte & set menu. they do an excellent 5 course "set" menu with about 6 or 7 choices per course for £40 for 2.
qulaity is superb & the quantity for the money is beyonf belief.
recommend mixed grill for big eaters.

I've heard the food at the Old Vicarage in Ridgway is fabulous, but very expensive. I'd really like to try it sometime - for a special occassion anyone got any further useful comments on it?
What's that place at the top of Hanover Way 'The Harley' ? I heard a while ago that it is a great place to eat but not heard anything recently?
