What I need to do is get the footage from three VHS tapes into a state where I can edit them digitally, then export them to a looped DVD.

Never done this before, so not sure what I need. Obviously, I'll need a VCR machine, but then after that I'm pretty clueless. Do I have to record straight onto DVD (by using a DVD recorder), or is there a way of capturing the footage directly with editing software? Or am I going to need a TV card, or some other such piece of specialised equipment?

Any help/suggestions much appreciated.

You'll need a capture device to connect the video recorder to your PC.

It will come with some bundled software, or you can use Windows Movie Maker or Nero Vision Express (better).
