You can get a perfectly good new one for about £270 (or less) from ebuyer.com Second hand ones are likely to be a lot slower and not much cheaper. Agrajag 28-08-2008, 21:33 For the price of a second hand lappy, you could probably get a new one if you shopped around. For £299.98, Ebuyer.com do a Acer Aspire 5717Z with 80GB hard drive, 2GB RAM and dual core Pentium 1.6Ghz CPU, loaded with Vista Premium. It's not top of the range, but it's fairly respectable for the price. CookieMonste 28-08-2008, 21:33 Because i just want something very basic just for browsing the internet really, rven a cheap pentium 3 would be suitable for browsing the net, i don't really want it for anything else. Agrajag 28-08-2008, 21:40 For internet use, one of the ASUS EEE series are pretty cheap at around £150, TBH you cant really do much else with them. :hihi: They have 7 inch screens, 2GB hard drives and come with Linux instead of windows. They do make great little portable web browsing machines though. More of a knee-top than a laptop. ;) mr chris 28-08-2008, 22:20 Because i just want something very basic just for browsing the internet really, rven a cheap pentium 3 would be suitable for browsing the net, i don't really want it for anything else. You'd be surprised how much power you need to surf the net nowadays, especially if you want to have more than about two windows open... For the difference in price between a second hand p3 and a new Core 2 duo laptop, it's not worth being a cheaparse! p3s are that old it's liable to be on its last legs anyway and it might just scrape running XP veeeeeerry slowly. CookieMonste 28-08-2008, 22:33 what's the cheapest new laptop you can get then? vidster 29-08-2008, 00:54 Less than £200 but i would get the one of the many on offer at the minute at £200 from Currys etc. They are great for browsing and one or 2 other things. mr chris 29-08-2008, 06:54 what's the cheapest new laptop you can get then? Er, we just told you. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/148824 if you want to use Windows; http://www.ebuyer.com/product/141743 if you want to just surf the net. Greybeard 29-08-2008, 07:42 Er, we just told you. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/148824 if you want to use Windows; But limited warranty on that - just three months. I recently bought the Acer mentioned by Agrajag and after cleaning the crud off it runs very well. Would recommend a USB optical mouse to go with it. My first encounter with Vista and I imagine the 2GB is essential ;) Carl_Malibu 29-08-2008, 08:12 Asus EEEPC 901 is great, 9" screen/keyboard, windows XP, 12gb flash drive with an expansion port (so you could add another 8gb MicroSD card), comes in at sub £300, around £250 from certain retailers. alchresearch 29-08-2008, 09:53 Because i just want something very basic just for browsing the internet really, rven a cheap pentium 3 would be suitable for browsing the net, i don't really want it for anything else. I've got an Iridium Starbook P3 1Ghz for sale if you're interested? millsands 29-08-2008, 10:52 Is there anywhere in sheffield that sell secondhand laptops? i know cex do but i've been in there and they are very expensive, is there anywhere else? type in blink n missit in google based at chapeltown they do very good stuff |
