Has anybody got cover to recommend?

Some have a large excess, so most things aren't claimable.
Some have large premiums for no obvious benefit.

Does anybody know what the clause about 'breeding' really means? Can my dog sire one litter if he's not studding regularly? And why is it a problem?

:help:

I tried google, but personal recommendation (and not having to enter details into sixty different websites first  ) is usually the best way to research

i use tesco pet insurance and they have always been great with prompt payment - excess is £50 and I pay around £14 a month (although my dog is old now).
I think my premium might be slightly higher as over the past 5 months she has cost over £3k in vet bills with the prospect of another £1k which tesco has already agreed to cover!!

Cheers Jo

I'm looking at the M&S one at the moment, with no excess and the wormer and frontline seem to be included (unless there's small print I've missed :suspect: )

My gorgeous pussy cats are all with More Than, and I have always been more than happy.

A few years ago when one of mine was poorly, they sent me a cheque to cover vet costs and even a card for my poorly cat

So, apart from the card, what are the main features of your insurance Ollie? What's your excess like?

We are with PetPlan. Almost joined Tesco but then we realised that if our cat gets a serious illness it would only be covered for that illness for the year, whereas PetPlan cover every illness for life.

I've just checked my M&S policy and frontline isn't covered:

What we will not pay: The cost of killing or controlling fleas, general health enhancers and unconventional or unlicensed treatment.

I don't think any insurance will cover flea treatment or wormers though.

I would also check that the insurance has lifetime cover, so if Brude (? have I got the name right) was unfortunate to have a long term illness, the insurance would pay out year after year (so long as you paid the premiums each year). Petplan, M&S and a few others do this.

Try searching www.moneysupermarket.com - searches quite a few insurers at the sametime.

Cheers Thomsongirl!

Can you tell me what this covers? http://www6.marksandspencer.com/pages/default.asp?PageId=PolSum&Product=PI

There is a tick and wormer item that just says 'covered'

Do you have the 'no excess' package?

There is a tick and wormer item that just says 'covered'

Section 13 on Page 31 of Policy Document:

REPEAT TICK AND WORMING TREATMENT
We will reimburse You as a direct result of Your departure for the United Kingdom being delayed by Your Carrier, reasonable
fees incurred by You in getting repeat tick and worming Treatment for Your Pet.

i.e. You are in France with Brude and just before coming home you get the required vet check, treatment and certification ready enter UK.
Illness, loss of certificate etc. stops you leaving on time and as the certificate is only valid for 2 days, you have to get repeat treatment.
It is those repeats that they will pay for.

 Good to see people going for insurance!

I went with petplan, again because they cover illness for life, as well as pretty much anything else.
May not be the cheapest (although excess is reasonable - about £40) in the world, but by all accounts seems one of the most comprehensive.

Hi Strix

We've got Fergus insured with EandL (www.eandl.co.uk) and pay about £14 a month for one of the more expensive plans. Illness is covered for life, unlike the cheaper insurers such as Tesco and Morethan. The excess was £49 until recently but I have a feeling they have increased that now.

I must say I do find insurance very confusing as it's hard to compare companies ... but hope this helps.

CGKSheff has answered the question about the tick and flea control. -It's for the Pet Passport scheme.

I am on the no excess, swapped from last year when I was on the £50 standard excess. Had no problems then with them and I'm waiting for my first claim (£189) to come from them on the no excess policy which will be more than I have paid for the year on one of my dogs.

Avoid EandL I have heard nothing but bad reports about them from lots of people.

Petplan is the rolls royce of pet insurance - best you can get but you do pay out for it.

Sorry I got it wrong - just checked when I got home from work and we're insured with Animal Friends. £49 excess. £13.99 a month. They say they donate commissions to animal charities. They were fine and paid promptly when I put in two claims late last year.

Animal Friends was one I hadn't heard of but was looking at
EandL was the first one I crossed off the list

But beware - I think the direct debit from my bank account says EandL - which is why I got confused. Maybe Animal Friends are a subsidiary of EandL? In which case this might put you off!
