Im looking for recommendations for good horse riding lessons please, ive been riding for a few months again and would like somewhere closer to my home (can drive to) which is sheffield 6 area. im looking to have 2 private lessons a week to get me back up to speed with riding so eventually i can look out for part loan of a horse. i know there is lots of local schools but would prefer to go by recommendation as schools can differ greatly. anna.x.

where abouts is S6 anna? Is it stannington way?
I haven't been for years but I have always heard good things about Smeltings Farm on Ringinglow Road. They also give lessons in horse care, parelli and I think they do BHS courses as well (all of which would be very helpful to you if you are looking to part loan a horse, as it is not just about riding). I can't think of anywhere near S6 as I've never ridden round there but sometimes it might be better to travel to find a better yard.
yes im up near stannington but happy to travel for about 5 miles, the only reason im asking local if poss is because of my business i dont get much time in day free so if its more local im more likely to be able to get or fit in in between jobs. im usually free after tea though. anna.x.

We got to smeltings farm and it is fantastic- the lessons are great. we have been to a few riding schools before going to smeltings and I must say that they are the best we have ever been to. A bit far for you to travel though maybe?

Yes, that's what I have heard. I know that Damian does Parelli as well (natural horsemanship) which is rare for a riding school and a great way to learn. I personally haven't had a lesson or been there for about 10 years but still hear good things.

Oh yes, the parelli is great. Had 3 lessons I think so far, very good fun and you learn such a lot. The horse is off a lead reign, just loose for most of it. I would highly recommend it:D, although it is quite expensive :(
yes Smeltings is good , my friends have horse livery up there and lessons too, may be i should go for a jump lesson there?
