I'm looking for some advice cos its been a while since I did the whole training thing! My 20 month old daughter has started telling us when she's pooed, and she also tries to take off her nappy a lot, I've noticed its often just after she's weed as it tends to be wet. My mum keeps telling me to potty train her but I think its far too early, plus she can't walk yet so can't toddle to the potty!
What do you think? I keep praising her when she tells us she's pooed, which makes her happy (she claps herself!) the nappy thing is annoying as I often find her with a bare bum lol, but obviously I don't say anything, just put her a dry one on.

can she tell when she needs to go? Maybe you could start by asking her to tell you when she needs to go, that way you can get her tot he toilet untill she can take herself? Try pull ups as they are harder to get off. Let me know how you get on :)

why not leave a potty lying about and see if she takes interest?
is there any reason why she is not walking yet or is she just taking her time?

no she cant tell, thats why I think shes too young and it'd be a pointless exercise at the moment, my eldest daughter was 2 1/2 and understood quite well when we asked her to use the potty, she was sorted in about a week!
No reason why she's not walking, just a lazy mare I think!

Does your older daughter bring things to her if she wants them? I've heard that this can often make younger children not walk. You can always ask your elder daughter to stop helping her so much if that is the case - apparently the results can be quite dramatic.
I'm nowhere near potty training yet, but from what I've heard, telling you when they've been is the first step. I'd agree about leaving a potty around, but don't expect her to use it at first, then work on getting her to tell you when she needs to go.
My little one is taking his nappies off too if I use the ones with velcro fastenings and don't cover him up. But I haven't worked out any pattern to it yet. If he's just in a nappy then I use ones with poppers as he can't work them out yet! I may have to buy some more poppered ones soon though because at the moment we have more velcro ones than poppers.
The fact that she is starting to tell you when she has messed her nappy indicates she is getting ready to begin potty training.
In the very early stages i would take her to the potty when you are changing her- take her nappy off leave her for a couple of minutes and then put a dry nappy on, that way she is getting used to the potty and associating this with nappy changes. It might be a while until she is successful but at least she is getting used to the idea of potty training
If she poo's at regular times also try and catch these on the potty?
