Hi everyone,
I am 11 weeks pregnant, and for the last 6 weeks or so have had severe depression. It is starting to lift now (thankfully), and I'm feeling a bit more human again. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?
It really took me by surprise. This is my second baby, so I know what the emotional rollercoaster of the first trimester is like. This was different, a real black hole, constant tears, not finding pleasure in anything and feeling like I just couldn't cope with anything -textbook stuff really and I had to have time off work.
I've read around a bit now and found that this can be fairly common, so I was surprised that I hadn't heard about this happening before. All the focus seems to be on post natal depression...

ooh, just wanted to add that this was a planned pregnancy, and my husband and I were thrilled to find out that baby gruffalo is going to have an even babier gruffalo to hang out with!
i think its very common and nothing to worry about. Have you sufferd with sickness or fatigue? if so this can add to making you feel down. try to get a little exercise everyday - even if its just a 10 min brisk walk.
hpe you feel better soon

Not got anything to add really, except congrats on the pregnancy and hope you're feeling better soon. How old is baby Gruffalo?

Firstly, congratulations!
Secondly, hormones are bleddy awful things, and can ruin the best of times, during pregnancy or not, so I really feel for you. I hope you feel better soon, but in the meantime, keep posting and talking, as this is the way forward. XX

Thanks very much! :)
Sickness has not been too bad as long as I eat constantly, but the fatigue - oh my god - have barely been able to make it up and down the stairs without collapsing on the sofa! This is one major difference from the first time round because obviously you can't just sleep when you want when you've got a little one that's raring to go all the time. I feel a bit guilty, but he has watched more tele in the last few weeks than in the entire of his life so far!

dont worry about the telly. My little boy is 14 months and I'm 25 weeks pregnant. I really suffered terribly with morning sickness - so much so my gp wanted me to be admitted to hospital due to dehydradration. I was still breastfeeding at the time which didn;t help.
I felt very depressed during the 1st trimester too, mainly due to feeling so bloomin awful but i'm sure hormones have a lot to do with it too.
My little boy has had days where I know I've neglected him, and left him in front of baby tv all day - but overall you have to get the right balance. If you need to rest then you need to rest.... could you put your other little one in a nursery for an afternoon or get a relative to babysit just so you can get a bit of chill out time - sounds like you need it.

crikey that sounds rough...did you start feeling better as you got into your 2nd trimester?
Glad to know I'm not the only one making use of the electronic babysitter though...we haven't got any family nearby so can't ask them to help unfortunately, but I did take some time off work while the little one was still at nursery - spent all day in bed and I think this rest is what has helped me the most.
I'm going take your earlier advice and start trying to do some daily exercise. I'm usually quite active but these few weeks of eating and sitting/lying down are almost certainly contributing to me feeling so rubbish.
Hormones... man they don't make it easy. I actually had a miscarriage the month before I fell pregnant again so I feel like mine must have been doubly all over the place. My first scan isn't till I'm about 14 weeks so fingers crossed till then.
