Another Bank Holiday passes by and what at one point was promised to be a 'heatwave' and a 'glorious weekend's weather' has turned out to be another damp squid.

My gripe here is that the so-called experts at the Met Office, once again made a complete howler and got it wrong. Infact, on Saturday morning, I was sat here at work listening to another 'forecast' predicting it would remain dry over Sunday and Monday and temperature's would reach something like 19 degrees C.

Then the smug, smiley tart comes on TV the following day and we don't even get an apology!!! I say scrap the forecast, put Bagpuss on in its place, or even some more DFS Sale adverts on the radio.

They might be garbage replacements, but at least they're telling the truth (of a truth of sorts in DFS's case).

These forcasters have not a clue what the weather will do in the next 5 hours.

Then, If you watch the adverts in a morning on GMTV, You can telephone a premium call line, and get a 10 day forecast. :loopy:

Hang on its not as if they forecast a heat wave and we got snow is it? Saturday and Sunday was nice and hot and so was Monday, it did rain for about 5 minutes but put it in contexts.

I think the temperature was almost on the nose and if anything was hotter than predicted!

The people at the met office are not clairvoyant!

Thats right, so why ask people to phone premium rate lines to "Tell" :suspect: them the forecast for the next 10 days?

Do you get a phone rebate when they are wrong?.

Don't know why it's such a big problem getting the weather forcast right, my Arthritus gives a two days advance warning .

Usually 90% right too.

weather forecasting was started for the fishermen and shipping traffic on the sea wasn't it, where a decent forecast even a few hours in advance can literally save lives.
It's a very inexact science at the moment, both due to limits in processing power and lack of understanding of all the factors that contribute to weather patterns.
Only by continuing to try and correcting the models when mistakes are made will it become more accurate.

(It is far more accurate today than it used to be). It seems like Sheffield missed out actually, all my colleagues from around Brum had brilliant weather all weekend.

Your arthritis plays up as the pressure changes rapidly, usually indicating a change in weather system.

Of course the met office are never remembered when they get it right, only when they get it wrong.

predictions of anything up to 5 days ahead, depending on conditions, can be pretty accurate.

considering they are predicting the weather, and not the result of the 2:25 at doncaster, they do pretty well.

On the bbc interactive red button thing they had a very accurate weather forcast. It said it would be sunny in the morning, then it predicted thunderstorms between 3 and 6 and then a sunny evening. Where i was was it got couldy at almost exactly 3 o'clock. Amazing!

Obviously it's just the GMTV weather thats rubbish
