Went to Wig and Pen last night for food. It was excellent. I'd not been sinced it's been extended - they've done a very good job. Reasonably priced for the quality.

East one noodle bar on the west one complex is good. Freshly cooked food, good portions reasonable price-never had a bad meal there yet.

Avoid West Street / Leopold Sq, and you will be ok.. unless you like McDonalds style food.

I had a meal at Piccolino's near the winter gardens the other week and it was fantastic! Not sure how much you are wanting to spend but i had a couple of beers, some wine, Grilled Swordfish, and a dessert which came upto about £30/£35 inc tip.

The staff are great and the location is nice (even better if the sun is out as you can sit outside)

Have a great birthday by the way.

Hello!
If you like Italian, Strada in Leopold Square is one of my favourites! and not McD's style at all!
Olive on Division street is really good too, I love their Death by Dime bar dessert!

There's also a new noodle bar that I like, it's Tokyou on Castle Square.

23 in West One makes very good food and nice cocktails too but I tend to find it a bit posh.

That's all I can think of for now :)

I followed a recommendation on here for The Sanctuary on St.James Street, excellent food and good service. It has a really good menu if you try it enjoy and have a great birthday.

Platillo's and McDonalds?

Hmmmm, blindfolded, you'd struggle to pass the taste test.

Seconded. Lunch for my o/h and I with soft drinks usually comes in at ~£15. Excellent sandwiches served with dressed salad and frites, or nice light cooked lunches. Tapas menu always great too.

If you like sushi, then Sakushi on Campo Lane - a bit different and fun for a birthday because of the conveyor belt!

That's nice to know, my friend knows the head chef there and they've just been slated in the star by Martin 'not got a clue' Dawes

My partner and I went to Piccolo's just off West St last night and it was excellent. The waiter was attentive and the tiramisu was just gorgeous. Highly recommended.

Hi
I own Bluwater and we have a broad locally supplied lunch menu. We are a bar without pretensions. Recent write ups in the Star and Telegraph can be "googled" to give you an idea if it is your style or not. Call me if you have any questions on 2754365

It's prob a bit late for your birthday now, but Las Iguanas in the West One complex is lovely Mexican-type food and also has a great cocktails menu!
