My cat died about 10 days ago (knocked down) and I really miss him.............. I would love another cat but because of the busy road we now live beside and the fact my husband doesn't think it's fair to keep cat indoor, we are not getting one - thinking about getting a small dog in a few months............. but I miss my cat........ cats are so different from dogs, it's the first cat we have had - I will be happy with a little doggy but I still miss my cat :(

Why not think about fostering kittens to bring them on for rehoming? It would be so rewarding and while you are fostering they would be house cats. It's terrible to lose a pet, I am so sorry for you. But there are so many out there at the moment who are not rehomable until they have been socialised. My friend has 16 cats who have always lived indoors and they enjoy life to the full. They have the run of the house and are just wonderful in every way. Older cats in my experience make lovely house cats. Good luck love x

Sorry to hear about that finoni9. I know exactly what you're going through. You'll know when you're ready to get another cat. He/she won't be a replacement but will prove to be a loving addition.

I live on a very busy road, always used to have cats that went outdoors until i moved here. I too was wary of keeping cats indoors so we opted to get pedigree cats, who aren't really streetwise enough to go out, and more than happy to stay in. I now have 3 indoor british shorthairs who couldn't be happier.

Also some rescue centres have cats that need to stay indoors for various reasons-you could try ringing around.

Spoke with hubbie again last night but he said no way to indoor cats - so small doggy it is but not for a couple of months as we're still settling into new house.

sorry to hear about your cat
our elvis was knocked down on boxing day and we live on a quiet cul de sac it was the worst xmas ever . we are now looking for a kitten
just remember dogs are a lot more responsibility. they need lots of walks no matter what the weather and who likes picking up dog poo with a plastic bag.
good luck
