View Full Version : Recommend a vet in Woodseats for my cat
dizzy_chick 26-08-2008, 12:11 Hi
I need to take my very nervous 11 year old cat to a vet as she has a skin problem which is driving her mad at times.
Can someone recommend a vet for me in Woodseats? The last time I took her she squealed the place down when the vet was examining her! I had to leave the room I was so upset by it.
Thanks

I'm sorry that I can't recommend a vet over in your neck of the woods as I've never used vets so far from home, but I can recommend something to help with your cat's nerves.
If she's really distressed on coming in to the vets then most vets are happy to dispense a dose of sedative so that you can sedate her before putting her in the basket so that she spends her time going to the vets as a stoned and happy cat rather than a stressed and nervous cat. Usually either diazepam or ACP are dispensed, which you crush and put in a little bit of really tasty food like pilchards to make sure that they eat it all- then you wait for half an hour before putting them in their basket.
Talk to your vet- it's in their interest for animals to be relaxed enough to be examined properly too.
Hi Dizzy Chick, Medusa advised me to do the same with our cat who had lived most of her life under the bed and was being taken to the vets for the first time in her 15 years with us. The transformation was remarkable after she had diazepam. I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone for a cat with a nervous disposition. The tablet was £4 and was given to me by Vets4Pets on Abbeydale Road South who are wonderful. Best I have come across all my pet owning life!
Talk to Peak vets first they are very good at knowing whats best for you and are able to do other things , so your cat won't be distressed . Good luck

This is such a good idea. First we do have the race around the room to get her in the box. Then she yowls a bit in the car so by the time we get to the vet we are both somewhat emotional! I have tried Rescue Remedy sometimes but I am not sure it works.
I will give Peak Vets a ring- they are the ones of Chesterfield Road, aren't they?
Olivet road - carphone warehouse is on the corner
they have a website too - just google them
they also do their own out of hours service and are open more hours than most vets, so being registered with them has already saved us a fortune just in not having to pay extortionate out-of-hours fees
goldenbabe1966 26-08-2008, 18:44 Peak Vets are great :thumbsup:open at weekends too.
I don't recommend doping your cat if they're just a little bit nervous, but cats can be really quite good at being offensive weapons when they're really stressed (they have sharp bits on all of the ends!) and that's not positive for cat, owner or vet.
I'm lucky that Baby copes with things much better if I'm there to tell her that it's all OK, but I don't think that a vet would get a good look at her tummy or a wound or whatever without sedating her. It's a matter of fact that she's a hand reared feral beastie and when something happens that makes her connect with her feral side I know that she's not responsible for her actions. I don't see why that should make her unable to see a vet when the use of just a little sedative can make it less stressful for the most important part of the deal- the animal.
helenasq 26-08-2008, 19:01 I recommend Peak vets. They give good advice and provide a brilliant service. Also it doesn't smell like a vets when you walk through the door. The vets and the nurses are all brilliant and nothing is too much trouble for them.
littleblue 26-08-2008, 19:22 Peak Vets is fab - wouldn't trust anyone else with my fluff balls.
I also use peak vets on olivet rd.
They are really good.
dizzy_chick 27-08-2008, 07:53 Brilll!
I will ring Peak Vets and speak to them about getting Shadow an appointment & also the sedative.
Thanks for all your suggestions!
tarantino 27-08-2008, 14:02 another vote for peak vets my kitten purred the whole time she was there even when she was having her stitches removed but she did pick up a funny habit of pushing her water bowl down the stairs after she's stayed there overnight, very strange

My cat purrs all the time she visits there, she seems quite at home when we take her and her friend up to see the vets:)
As for the water bowl going down stairs you should see our rabbit she does that with the dog bowl in the bedroom, complete with water!!! when she first did i thought Badger had wee'd!
