This is my first post in this group, so please be kind!
I've not knitted since I was a teenager but have a whim to teach a couple of kids how to knit something basic like a scarf.
I've no needles, no wool, only the inspiration and motivation..... I don't want to go out and spend a fortune on this project, just in case the kids hate the idea and I'm lumbered with it all.
So, has anyone got any needles and old wool they no longer want or need or can you point me in the direction to somewhere mega cheap?
Hello! You will find we (especially me) are always kind here on the knitting forum!! :suspect: :D You can sometimes pick up bargains at charity shops for wool and needles, but there is always Atkinsons on the Moor where you can probably get a ball of 99p acrylic. If you want inspiration, go to The Wool Baa. There's nothing much cheap there (and there again I'm sure yarn is always reasonably priced...... I'm digging a hole here.....what I'm trying to say is you aren't going to find your cheap acrylic ie less than 99p) .......but if it's quality you're wanting  I love The Wool Baa. Honest I do :help::D

A pair of knitting needles at the Wool Baa are £1.65, and a ball of double knit acrylic is £1.24.
The acrylic is fab (I've been raving about it all day!) and amazingly soft and kind on the hands. I knit with it quite a bit and love it.
Good luck teaching the kids to knit - there are some really good patterns aimed at kids and there is a new book out (can't remember what its called, its not terribly expensive) with a good how to knit section and some lovely patterns.
Hope that helps :)

Hey Buffy.
I can let you have a couple of pairs of chunky knitting needles (6.5mm/7.5mm) - as it's for such a good cause! Anything that helps create the next generation of knitters!
Let me know if they're any use to you.
