View Full Version : Do you believe in ghosts, orbs etc?
Are you a beliver?? i know that this may sound crazy to some people but, i belive that my dog who died last september is still with me.... i have pics of orbs, heard him bark.... my dad died 15 years ago, but i sometimes i think hes there - smell of his fags, the feeling of someone walking through me. i truly belive im not alone or am i mad??? anyone else had these feelings/sights/pictures. how do you cope with these signs???:help: i know im not mad!!
Do you ever find feathers???? strange question but that happened to me and I was told it shows you have a Guardian Angel!!
I would like to say I am a believer as I would like to think there is a 'community' after death....but I will never know until it is time!!
I have seen a ghost at work back in 1989 but because the apparition wasn't 'obvious' as a ghost...she looked like a 'real lady' I never questioned it until I realised she had no reason to be there....therefore was she a ghost????
I love watching 'Most Haunted' though!!
:P
Yes I believe and most of my friends think I am nuts.
I have seen ghosts and been around when stuff has happened.

Hasn't the subject "The Paranormal" been done to death pardon the pun, on this forum. Think someone should start up a paranormal forum club ;)

No. I am not a believer. I no longer hold any religious beliefs, and do not believe in life after death. As such, I do not believe that there are such things as ghosts either.
When I was a kid, I had a 'grumbling appendix'. After 5 years of intermittent pain, I had it surgically removed. For the next 2 years, I still suffered the same symptoms and pain! I cannot to this day explain why that happened. Similarly, I cannot explain why some folk believe they have experienced ghosts. I believe that they think they've experienced a ghost, or some other
so-called paranormal experience, for which there is no apparent rational explanation. But no, I don't believe that ghosts, or God, exist.
I do believe that there are such things as ghosts, although I've never seen one. Orbs? I dunno, not sure I've seen one of those, either.
I have had some strange psychic experiences. This one, when I was eight.

And this one, that sticks in my mind because it was so vivid. About 11 years ago, when my kids were small, I was having a hard time coping with everything. I had quit my part time job, thinking that we would save the small fortune we were paying out for child care, and I'd have more time at home to get things done. Well, the result was, everything went straight to hell.
On this particular day, I was really feeling sorry for myself. Money was tight, the kids were both sick, and I was feeling poorly myself and hadn't had a decent nights sleep in weeks. I had no time for myself, and the previous day, while I was taking a shower, my son managed to get a hold of a metal nail file, and stick it in an electrical outlet, blowing every fuse on that circuit. His fingers were black up to the second joint, and I felt like a terrible mother! This necessitated a visit to the doctor, and a visit from an electrician. More money we didn't have! The house seemed perpetually a mess despite my best efforts (I could never figure this one out, as I stayed home all day) and I couldn't seem to get anyone to lend a hand.
My husband was away because of his job, and when he was home, he was tired and stressed. I'd get help from a friend, but then later, I'd end up watching their kids as well as my own to return the favor. Both of my parents were still working, my siblings lived in other states with families of their own. The last straw was when my in laws who were retired, and COULD have helped, decided to go live in Mexico for a year or two. I felt that no one cared.
I was standing at the kitchen sink, crying and trying to wash dishes, but mostly letting the water run so the kids didn't hear me, when what happened next is hard to describe. I felt a sensation like a tingling or warmth that started at the top of my head and moved all through me. I felt the presence of my husband's oldest sister who had died about 8 years earlier at the young age of 42. I felt her in every fiber of my being, in every cell of my body, she moved through me, and I felt as though she was there with me, as though she had put her arms around me. The sensation only lasted a few seconds, then it was gone. It wasn't in any way scary or creepy, it felt very natural.
To this day, I still don't know what it was. I'd always got on very well with my sister in law, and missed her after she died. I like to think that she was there with me that day, and tried in her way to help me. And it did help. It made me stop and think. Like you'd throw a switch to put a train on the right track, my thoughts changed, and I looked at things differently. They weren't THAT bad. I was having a hard time, but it could have been MUCH worse! I was alive, I was healthy, I had my loved ones.
I also believe that animals have souls. How can they not? They are a different form of life than humans, but they have a spark, a life force all their own. Anyone who has ever loved an animal will tell you the same.
And there has to be some sort of afterlife. I don't believe that when we die, there is nothing.

spiffymonkey 03-05-2005, 07:26 While I believe people perceive apparitions, I do not believe that they are 'ghosts of the dead'. Most of the time (the VAST majority) they are just a case of apportioning supernatural properties to something mundane. Take the 'feathers' thing for instance. At certain times of year, they're all over the place because the young birds are shedding their downy feathers. Doesn't make them guardian angels any more than glowing orbs.
i have never seen a ghost but i have had strange experience..
i had a friend movingin with me and had bought them a new divan bed with drawers, i had built the bed and emptied the room apart from my tumble dryer. I went out that night and when i got back went into the room to get my clothes out of the dryer and all the drawers in the bed were open!!!! i was so shocked by this as i know for a fact i had left them closed.
One thought that crossed my mind was that the cats could possibly have pulled them open, but why would they open them all?? (they were also very heavy and hard to open) that night i had heating on but the house was ice cold (it was summer) and i could not get warm at all.
Since then i have had a baby and on occasions thing that have happened with her have "freaked me out" when she was just born she was crying and i was in kitchen, when i got into living room she had her dummy which had been on the table. being newborn it was impossible for her to have put it in herself. There have also been occasions when it was as though someone was talking to her and playing with her as she was responding to someone and laughing!
i have come to the conclusion that if i do have some sort of paranormal activity it is friendly enough so there is no harm.
The problem is, there are too many cranks out there doing the investigations into the so-called 'paranormal'. We read too often of people who claim to have been fondled intimately by aliens from Outer Space, puddle-making poltergeists around the milk shelves at Sainsburys, voices from the dead [Radio Three] etc. What is required are more investigations by scientists. Unfortunately, due to the ludicrous image of the subject, most professional scientists would be unwilling to risk their careers on the 'paranormal'.
Interestingly, there is a poster on this forum [whom I shall not name for fear of embarrassing him, and because I have great respect for him too], who has conducted many years of 'amateur' research into the subject, particularly in the area of ghosts and orbs, and his inclination is towards scepticism. If anything, he believes these phenomena are probably , as yet, undiscovered 'natural' phenomena rather than manifestations from another time/ dimension/world.
Having said that , I have experienced what may have been the phenomena known as a 'ghost'. The frustrating thing is, it happened so quickly [in the corner of the eye, so to speak] that I can never be absolutely sure. Like most people, I tend to keep quiet about it away from the anonymity of the forum...
Berberis 03-05-2005, 08:18 Ghosts yes, but Orbs, no! Orbs just look like dust on the lense to me, and why are they always our of focus?
This is a good site: http://www.ghoststudy.com/
LordSnooty 03-05-2005, 08:22 Ghosts? Orbs? (Wot, you mean like a sphere?). Do I believe in them? No, of course not! But then, I don't believe in microwaves either. Being a Lord, I'm more of an Aga man.......
Orbs! Didn't they have one on Star Trek? What colour are they? Do they glow, by any chance? Orbs......orbs..........orbs............I don't understand. How can anyone 'believe in orbs', it's ridiculous. And I thought the BNP were mad........
