Right - we have just picked up 2 cats from my OHs mum, we decided to take them a while ago as she has too many cats living with her and not enough space.
One of them is a year old and is fine (so far) - however, his son (who is 5 months old) has just done a poo with blood in it and the poo itself was an odd colour/consistency.
I am going to contact the vets about this, but I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience?
Thanks for the help.

firstly, if the animal is "passing" blood then, yes, a Vet needs to be consulted about it. You are doing the right thing by getting a vet's advice.

You say the blood is an odd consistency; what do you mean? like coffee grounds? or like a jelly/ mucous?

If it's like jelly/ snotty consistency ( :gag: ), it is possible that the cat has colitis, and may need something from the Vet, to soothe the inflammation in his gut.

My old dog gets colitis quite badly if he's given beef lamb or game type foods/ treats (despite me asking neighbours not to give them to him) I'm fairly strict about what I give him to eat, chicken-based dog foods, (he seems to do well on the chicken and rice dried food and chicken or plain dog biscuit-y treats.)

It may be that your little lad needs some bland chicken-y type foods to allow the inflammation to settle down. You may find that you might have to keep him on the blander foods, as I have done with my old boy.

Hope you get the poor thing sorted out soon.

my cat had this a few times,i took him to the vets they kept him for a few days he was fine, came home same again,
check someone isnt feeding him or poisoning him,
i was told to feed him on plain chicken and fresh steamed cod, defo not cat food, after a couple of days he was fine,
something he suffered on and off with for over 10 yrs!
the vets could find nothing wrong with him,

good luck:)

The strange poo and blood could also be coming from a bad case of worms. Do you know when he was wormed last?

I'd recommend a few days on bland food (chicken or fish and rice) and a good dose of Drontal if he's OK in himself and eating, drinking, playing and grooming as normal before seeking vet opinion.

If he's at all unwell otherwise then the vet is your only option to be safe for him I'm afraid.

when we got our rescue cat he had blood in his poo - the vet was pretty certain that it was down to a change in his environment. Apparently they get quite stressed by any change, but he is a lot older than your kitten (he is 8 years ish)

Billy gets this when he "finds" anything dairy to eat.

Has he had any milk or cheese?
