I have a tv with a freeview digi box, VCR and DVD all connected with scart leads. Is there any way that I can make all the components link together so that I can tape from the digital signal? I have a feeling that you can't tape via the digi box but it's beyond me! HELP!! Cheers D.

To do the following you need two scarts on you TV.

Digi box>VCR>TV
DVD>TV (The DVD doen't need to go to the VCR as you can't record from DVD 'cos of the macrovision)

There were about 6 threads on this at christmas, and some of the replies were ded easy to follow

We've included the stereo into the equation so we can listen to the radio channels without the telly on, or sometimes we have the stereo on for watching dvds (better than tose tinny cinema speakers :D )

I followed the instructions on the other thread and the weird thing is, I can still only tape BBC1 - Channel 5......stuff like CBEEBIES still cant be taped.
I have tried doing it with just the coax connectors and retuning the video but nothing works...

HELP !

You'll need to use the SCART connections for recording from digital as 90% of dodgyboxes only have RF loopthrough and output the digital via SCART only.

You'll then need to set your video to record from the AV input, usually line, or AUX, (not Ch xx).

Try this bit first

Or in words of one syllable:

Put the telly on.
Put the video on.
Put the didgibox on.

Tell the telly to show you the video picture. (ch0, aux, or whatever yours is called)

Now tell the video to get it's picture from the digibox.
You may need to select a new channel to tune the video to if you're only using the aerial cable, but AUX should do it if you are connected up with a SCART lead

Channel hop around the digi channels to check you're looking at the right thing.

To record on the video:

Set the channel on the digibox.

prog the video to record from the digi channel (AUX or whatever you tuned it to)

don't touch the digibox!! If somebody turns over, the tape will 'turn over' too

How's that? :)

If that doesn't work, you're wired up wrong :(

Usually, I agree with most of what you say.

However(!), as it sounds like Dj_Shadowman has unplugged all the SCART leads I would suggest that plugging them all back in again would be better as the first step.

Sorry, I edited whilst you were posting.

If he's got a whole plate of spaghetti down there, he may get confused with the scarts, so I've left them out for now ;)

So you did!

Just to add, when plugging in the limited SCART leads for the purposes of testing as per above if it doesn't work swap the SCART leads round on the back of the VCR as some only work in one direction (in\out) on certain sockets.

But if you really squint it usually tells you which are which on the appliance. The instruction book doodle may be easier to read though :)
