I remember a guy telling me he learnt to knit whilst in the army. We have been 'co nditioned' to believe it is sissy for a man to knit. I couldn't marry such a man, but otherwise don't care what hobbies a man prefers.

When I first started on the forum the ladies of the knitting group BEGGED me to join them and learn to knit.

"No" I told them, "Im far too manly" and they replied with "Ohhh we KNOW you are, you HUNK, but the sight of you knitting a sock with those huge manly hands just turns us all... oooooh weak at the knees".

If you dont believe me, just look in the knitting group in 2006. The thread and various posts should still be there.

I tried.

I really tried. I bought needles and Hecate sent me information on how to learn to knit but I have absolutely no patience and within about 10 minutes the sticks were bent in half and I was part of a huge ball of wool.

:hihi:

Mittens are great unless you have to find your bus fare in a hurry, but balaclavas not so much. Quite like this (http://knitty.com/ISSUEfall07/PATTjh.html) one though ;) .

Men do knit, of course, and always have (http://www.menknit.net/history.html) (and design (http://brooklyntweed.blogspot.com/) too (http://www.kaffefassett.com/)), though asking whether it's 'manly' to do so is as silly as asking whether it's womanly; people knit if they like the idea and choose to learn.

Taxman - the cheque's in the post :D .

Now, its all agreed that Im pretty bloody butch. We`re all in agreement that when it comes to being manly, Im yer man!

Yeah?

I dont knit because the gallons of testosterone in my hunky body wont allow me to- I see wool and I think of...

Well, of sex for some wierd reason, but thats just me but we have to agree that because a hunk like me doesnt knit, then its not a manly thing to do.

Right?

Damn... just broke a nail.... back in a sec...
